A dish intended for use in the kaseki meal decorated with three ragged fans inset within an arabesque of Hagi, bushclover, one of the seven plants of Autumn, that makes up the Akikusa-de. The sensu, Japanese folded fan, was often used as a seasonal motif representing the hot and dry months of summer, so the discarded ragged appearance of the fans shows that summer has ended, and that the winds of autumn have arrived...

A 16th century Yoshiro Zogan tsuba. The type is named for a Kaga province artist considered to have advanced the late Onin period brass inlay art to that of hira-zogan - flush with the iron surface. The school also took hold in other provinces, most notably Bizen. The mokko-gata form of this tsuba would appear to be uncommon for Yoshiro Zogan tsuba particularly of katana size. A thinly, very well potted porcelain body with a high quality underglaze blue decoration. The cobalt blue excellent. This marked Ming Minyao ( peoplesware ) bowl shows a nearly imperial quality. Jiajing period ( 1522 - 1566 ) Jingdezhen ware. Diameter : 12,1 cm. H : 6,4 cm. Condition : One glaze chip to the rim and one chip to the unglazed foorting. Very nice tone when tapped.
A magnificent and rare Amida Nyorai bronze Buddha, made in the early Edo Period, which means in the early 17th. century. This statue was made in a way called lost-wax metal casting, also known as Rougata Chuuzou, which was popular only in the 6th. century and in the Edo time.
The statue is in good antique condition with no repairs or cracks.

17th Century Tibetan Green Tara Thangka, 49.5 x 29.5 inches, 126 x 75 cm. Most of these thangka were photographed through glass frames, so there may be a little blurriness. This thankga was in an exhibition at the University of Texas Art Museum.

A rare bombe form bronze censer with lion mask handles and with traces of gold-splashed decoration. The base carries the six-character reign mark of the Xuande emperor (1426-1435) but this item was made later, probably during the late 16th or early 17th Century. Hard to find nowadays: slightly distorted shoe shaped (kutsugata) tea bowl from the early Edo Period with a rounded brim, made of little iron bearing, coarse, unrefined Mino clay. The expertly thrown body was trimmed with a potter's knife in its lower part around the foot ring.
The whole body was decorated with wide white parallel lines in a white engobe over which a thin line in iron oxide was drawn, over which finally transparent ash glaze was applied - really stunning.

This is really a rarely seen example of antique Japanese ceramic art: impressive Katakuchi Chawan (tea bowl with a spout), made of unrefined Mino clay. Katakuchi chawans of that age are barely available on the antique market. It is the only one in our collection. So take your chance.

This incense-burner has a flaring rim form raised on three ogee feet and has its original patina and considerable carbon incrustation from many years of use. Two lion's head handles embellish the body and the cast Da Ming Xuande mark is centered on the base.
