Ancient mask, beautifully carved in heavy wood, with realistic features, representing the face of a snarling tiger. Wood, with remnants of the handpainted polychrome decoration. India, Gujarat or Maharashtra, Kukana tribes, early 20th century. Height: 27 cm. The mask is nicely mounted on a custom stand. Old accident at lower jaw, very well restored locally. Acquired in 1974.

Kajibanten (fireman's jacket) with sashiko, made of cotton. It has hand-drawn "shachi" motif, which is a mythical carp with the head of a lion and the body of a fish and it is an auspicious protecter. Generally, in good condition but some wear in the neck and brownish stain near hem. 19th century. W:122cm, L:87cm

Chinese Qing dynasty porcelain bowl with high foot decorated around the circumference with three blue and white landscape roundels set against a robin’s egg (lu jun) ground. The unglazed slightly recessed base has a central aperture leading to the hollow interior of the foot. A luting line is evident around the mid-section of the foot. 5 3/8” diameter by 3 1/8” high. 19th century or possibly earlier. Very good overall condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs...

Pair of Chinese export Canton tea caddies in hexagonal form, blue and white with traditional landscape and geometric banding, 6 carved feet, glazed bottoms, original lids. Measure 5" wide, 6 1/4" high and 3" deep, slight variation in sizes and shapes. Surface of caddies is slightly dimpled with the "orange peel" appearance to the glaze, all decoration in under glaze blue. Very rare heavy hardwood mask, with strong features in relief, an incised sacred trident on its forehead (the traditional weapon of Hindu god Shiva), round metal added eyes, large nose and mouth. Antique Japanese copper censer with handles. The pierced copper lid has a repousse design of a dragon in swirling storm clouds with lightening. The body of the censer is hammered copper and has two warabite shaped handles on either side.
