Tall Eboshi-shaped fire hood for a samurai, made of hand-spun cotton, both outside and inside, and dyed with vegetable indigo. In Edo period, the town of Edo often suffered from massive fires, so that "machi hikeshi" by town people as well as "samurai hikeshi" were organized. This hood was worn by a samurai together with samurai fire costume when the fire broke out. In good condition except for slight dirt in the top part. The piping is silk. 19th century. W:53cm, L:69cm

Chinese antique pair of porcelain tiles. Painted in enamel with scenes of snowy landscapes. One panel with a pavilion in the snow, a figure on a path, tall mountains covered with snow and a persimmon tree bare of leaves and laden with fruit. The other panel shows a red pavilion in the mountains, snow on pine and red maple trees and two figures climbing a stepped path. Both tiles are framed in dark hardwood.

This is a pottery vessel originating in the Han Dynasty of ancient China (206 BCE to 220 CE). Vessels such as these were often used as wine containers. This piece his beautifully sculpted and has great colors. There is a repair two the foot of the jar. There are also small chips and abrasions throughout and possible areas of professional restoration. It measures 29 cm in heights and 32 cm in width.

Hard porcelain bowl, produced in the Fukagawa kilns in Arita. Very artistic decor, typically Japanese, separated into two clearly distinct parts. On the one hand, two cranes in flight pass in front of misty Mount Fuji. The mountain and the sky are painted in underglaze cobalt blue and it is the absence of color which draws the clouds. One of the largest tablet or brick seals, we've ever offered. Bifacial tablet seals can normally be dated to around the 3rd. millenium BC. This is so delicately carved that it could be made somewhat later in the 2nd. mill. BC.

The black serpentine seal depicts a large Bee, filling the whole of the seal, and on the other side a Scorpion. Particularly, the Bee is masterfully engraved, so that even tiny details and textures of the bee can be seen. Absolutely stunning.
