A folky miniature portrait painting of a young man. With his stylish hairdo, high collar, and patterned vest, and pin, the gentleman exemplifies a dandy of the time. The blue hues in the background provide a striking contrast to the relatively monochromatic tones of the sitter.

The miniature is 2 3/8" by 1 3/4" and is housed in its original 2 1/2" by 2" brass case, which also has a lock of hair in the rear aperture. Condition is excellent, with no cracks, bowing, or paint flaking.

During the Edo period, the daimyo (Feudal lords) from each region was required to live in Edo (today’s Tokyo) every other year. This is a pair of ancient Chinese bronze cheek pieces from a horse harness. They are strikingly similar to ones excavated in Fufeng County, Shaanxi Province, and currently on display at the Shaanxi Provincial Zhouyan Museum. Cheek pieces such as these are generally attributed to the Western Zhou Dynasty (1100-771 BC). The pieces are decorated with simple linear decorations. This is a small Ming dynasty moulded sancai funerary covered box with ribbed sides. On top of the covered box, it has a moulded design of the plum blossom or meiping plant with flowers. It has a low footrim with a mildly recessed base. It also has a square seal mark which reads as "Da Ming Nian Zhao" from left to right instead of the usual right to left.

This charming pair of old Chinese lotus shoes were made from a sturdy cotton fabric and embroidered with cotton thread.
