Sake cup in wood lacquered with gold, silver and cinnabar powder. On the outside on a rich thick kinji background, decorated with flowers in gold and silver leafs around the perimeter and in the center 2 stylized Chinese characters in thick lumpy cinnabar lacquer with the most beautiful aesthetic effect, probably the mark of the artist. Small jade buckle cut with a grinding wheel, representing a dragon (chilong) curved on itself in the archaic style of the Han period. Fire has been thought as sacred and gods of fire have been put near furnaces, cooking stoves (kamado) and open fireplace (irori) for protecting from disasters and uncleanness. A Very Fine Big/Old Pine Tree by 소림 (小琳) 조석진 (趙錫晋) (1843년~1897)-19th C.: Korea, Joseon dynasty. A large single old pine stem and branched painted in ink and color, on silk, described, signed and two seals “小琳, 趙錫晋. This painting dedicated to Mr. Reid for his birthday gift, 1952. It is in very good condition but has some wears and a crease, it measures 37cm x 130cm painting only, or 48.5cm x 188cm overall.

An amazing small wooden figure covered in with glass eyes made in the hyper-real likeness of a Rakugo-shi Comic storyteller, dressed I traditional Hakama trousers and seated on a large cushion clutching a fan in his right hand. Statue of Buddha Amithaba or Amitayus, wearing an unusual diadem, jewelry and dhoti, sitting cross-legged on an elevated throne backed by a flaming mandorla, holding the elixir of immortality in his hands. Bronze, with a fine reddish-green patina. This statue is a Sino-Tibetan work, dating late 18th century/early 19th century. Height: 18.5 cm. Very good condition. Provenance: acquired from a Hong Kong antique dealer in 1978.

Antique solitary Awara-yaki chawan by great artist Kuze Tensei 久世天声 (1878 - 1933) around 1915 (Meiji Period).

He studied art under Yamada Kei while working as a teacher at Ishikawa Technical Senior High School. In 1914, he moved to Awara Onsen in Fukui Prefecture (a classic hot spring town) where he set up a studio and kiln and created Awara-yaki using clay from the area to produce Kyo-ware style ceramics, which often won prizes in exhibitions...

Antique Japanese tall stone sekitō (pagoda) with five tiers. Made of granite and carved in 9 stacking pieces. The central square section is carved with a seated Buddha on four sides. The top spire is carved with 9 tiers between lotus petals. The surface has a beautiful patina and is covered with areas lichen and moss.

Age: Meiji Period (1868-1912)

Three Mandarin Hat Finials. A clear glass of the 5th rank. Two gilt of the 7/9th ranks. Chinese Qing 1644-1911. Height of clear finial; 4 1/8" (10.3 cm). Condition; minor faults, slight corrosion to small gilt finial.

Pair of Tiele (Chinese Ironwood) Weiqi boxes, carved from solid wood. Weiqi was the forerunner of the Japanese board game of Go, and one of the Four Arts, that someone from the "gentleman class" were supposed to know. These boxes are used to put the stone pieces in. There is cyclical date which probably doesn’t go further back than 1972 therefore they could be 1984, 1996, 2008, 2000, 2012...

Covered vase in nuanced ocher jade, decorated in relief with a grinding wheel with Taotie masks. Very good quality of sculpture. The stone is probably fire-patinated to imitate the color of archaic jade as was usually the case in the Ming Dynasty. It is impossible for me to date such an object. It is old, probably from the 18th century but could be earlier. Good condition, except for a few dents on the lid that can be seen on an enlarged photo. Height: 12cm.

Hard stone cup, probably Jadeite. The more or less pale nuanced ocher colored stone is stained with a pretty green and veined with rust. The cut is very thin which required good control. Uneven grinding and a soft sheen suggest that this cut is ancient, difficult to date with certainty. Chinese work from the 19th century or before. Size:85x68x15mm Good condition.
