Yokote Kasuri Yogi was used in the Akita region during the Meiji period. Dyed with natural indigo. In this regard, the cotton is hand-spun. The pattern is Urashima Taro. This pattern is extremely rare. Very good condition No stains or damage. Size 147cm x 140cm (57.8" x 55.1")

A beautiful Japanese cloisonne enamel tray by Namikawa Sosuke. The scene is a bird perched on a flowering branch. The grayish background changes in tone from the top to bottom. The back is decorated with gilt wire stylized designs. The oval tray measures 11 5/8 inches by 9 1/4 inches. Signed on the front Seitei - Watanabe Shotei. Condition is excellent. Cotton Kurume kasuri futonji with a castle motif. Kurume in Fukuoka Pref. in Kyushu has been one of the main product places of indigo dyed cotton kasuri since late Edo period (early 19th century). It is made of hand-spun cotton that means probably it was made before Meiji 15 (1882) and vegetable indigo dyed. In excellent condition except for minor brown stains only in the back. It has white cotton belt for hanging in the back. The second half of th 19th century. 129cm x 158cm

A very finely engraved paktong ink stone box with copper lining and base. The cover is decorated with Shang dynasty style Gu and Ding vessels and with archaic style chilong dragon border. The base carries the four character maker's mark - "Rong Bao Shang Gong". Condition - very good...

A Yixing teapot. Height approximately 7.5 cm (the base to the nob), width approximately 13 cm (tip spout to handle) and diameter approximately 8 cm. The teapot has a soft tiny chip at the tip spout(picture no.9) Good condition.

This very well carved late 19th century ivory netsuke is 1 ¼” high, 2 ¼” wide and 2“ thick. It depicts an old samurai’s metal helmet decorated with shi-shi (lion) head on top. The helmet is situated on an opened paper fan. There are a dozen mice with inlaid eyes on the helmet playing and chasing each other. It seems that symbols of war and peace, the helmet and the fan, are brought together and put in their place by nibbling mice. The workmanship is just superb...

Oshi-e, litterally "pressed picture" which is made of fragments of antique European print and Japanese silk and the motif is a civilian man in Edo period. The history of Oshi-e date back to Heian period, found in Shosoin Treasures (around 10th century) It was very popular toy in Edo period with motif of Kabuki Theatre actors. The ground paper is "Itame-gami" which is ten layers of washi and has thin cotton lining so that it looks like a shallow relief. In good condition...

This is an excellently executed mid-19th Century Netsuke depicting a Copper Dragon over the Dojoji Bell, made from Bronze. This dragon is the converted Kiyohime, the daughter of an innkeeper who turned this way after being rejected by the pilgrim Inchin. Wonderful detail and composition, which is rare for a metal netsuke, have been used in the creation of this piece, which has been preserved in an outstanding manner...

An Oval Silver Tea Caddy; Made in Nuremberg, Germany, circa 1880 and Stamped Germany for export at a later date. Village scenes on each side. Weight 6.4 Troy ounces. Dimensions; 4.25" high x 4" wide x 2.75" deep. Has the "n" mark for Nurenberg and the number 13 (0.812 silver) on the lip of the bottom (both barely visible in the picture). Excellent condition.

Fireman's hanten made of thick cotton and hand-stitched sashiko (quilting). It has hand painted "Edo Machi Hikeshi" (town fireman) with "Matoi" which was hold by fireman to show his own "Kumi", brigade. It also has hand painted birds and waves design inside. 19th century. Rare cane in silver and precious wood. It is a real walking cane (and not a thin umbrella handle reemployed) as evidenced by the large ball knob that we have well in hand. The cast silver pommel is chiseled with two dragons fighting and scenes of daily life, fishermen, plowman, warrior? On the top of the pommel a Chinese character protrudes, it is finely chiseled with broken lines in the style of "ice crack" (frosted cracks) which here certainly have a meaning which unfortunately escapes us...

This mid 19th century famille-rose seal box is 1¾ inches tall and 3½ inches in diameter. It has Qian Long mark on the bottom. The mark is fictitious which is quite common. It is decorated with a floral design. Though the color is slightly worn and tiny chip appears inside the cover, it is in great condition.

Two pieces of urumi-zome cloth which are made of hand-spun cotton and vegetable indigo dye. Urumi-zome is katazome (stencil-resist-dye) imitating shibori-zome (tie-dye) and it requires more process than common katazome to make blurring like shibori. Both have rips but other part of the cloth is not weak. The right one has a patch in the back. The second half of the 19th century. Right one:75cm x 126cm, Left one:65cm x 126cm
