This remarkable tea bowl is from the kilns of Yoshida Shuen (1940-1987)—an apprentice of Miwa Kyusetsu (1910-2012) who was awarded the status of Living National Treasure in 1983. It features a milky translucent glaze somewhat resembling coral, with a few small portions of the foot of the tea bowl exposed, displaying the reddish coarse clay that this piece is fashioned from.

An exquisite faceted Bizen vessel by Ningen Kokuho Isezaki Jun enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Bizen Kuro Ana-kuri Hanaike (Formnig Holes Black Bizen Vase). This unusual Bizen chawan was made Sakauchi Ensen (b. 1922) of Okayama Prefecture and is unique even among the richly diverse styles of Bizen-yaki. Sakauchi calls this style Hishoku Nanban-yaki, secret color unglazed (nanban) pottery which is different than any other Bizen of its time or since.
