An Arita dish decorated entirely with a dense arabesque of trailing bush clover vine and leaf with flowers, lotuses. This design belongs to a class of designs called hosoge which ultimately derive from Chinese patterns of the Tang period. This particular form, popular from the seventeenth century, features Bush Clover, Hagi one of the auspicious akikusa-de, and is known as Hagi Karakusa, where karakusa means Chinese (literally Tang) grasses...

This miniature Japanese blue and white Imari vase is an early 20th century product. It is 3 ¾” high and 2 ¼” at its widest part. A fan shaped design painted with a landscape and tree adorn the neck of the vase. Morning glory, chrysanthemum and unknown flowers are painted on the body. Though small, the painting is very well presented. Aside from two cracks, one on the bottom and one on the side of the fan due to firing, it is in excellent condition.

A namasu or serving dish of unusual quadrilobed form with scalloped suhama style rim; a stylization of a wave washed beach. An auspicious form referencing Horai-san, the isle of the Immortals and therefore a wish for a long life. The bowl is decorated with a central mon of a stylised Lotus motif, perhaps also containing elements of the aoi-mon, and karakusa. Surrounded by four panels containing an unusual four toed Water dragon emerging from stylised waves...

A very unusual plate decorated with a central motif of a a late 17th century style “Kakiemon Dragon” framed by a segmented border with floral roundels each with fifteen petals set against a stylised wave and scroll ground, that seems to reference some of the wave patterns popular during the Transitional period...

From our Japanese Collection, a very fine assembled pair of Fukagawa imari porcelain chargers, Meiji Period (1868-1912). The blue Koransha mark on the reverse dates these more specifically to circa 1875-1880. One charger depicts figures set against a field of tall bamboo grass executed in mostly gilt and blue, along with very subtle use of green, orange and pink, while the second charger depicts just the bamboo grass...

A beautiful and entirely hand painted mille fleur (Thousand flower) Japanese satsuma bowl of exceptional quality and brightly painted flowers, no two bowls were exactly alike, each is an individual work of art. The bowl was produced by the Kushida company in the very early Tashio period, pre-1920. This bowl is of the highest possible quality with no noticeable wear, no chips, hairlines, or repairs, its a true flawless treasure of hand painted art with accents of gold gilt...

Unusual porcelain bowl in the shape of a double gourd with two separate compartments. The large section is for washing brushes; the small section may be used as a brush holder.
The outside of the large bowl is decorated in underglaze blue with pavilions in a landscape with mountains and a river. The edge is faceted and painted with cloud-like shapes. The outside of the smaller extension is decorated with stylized flowers. Ribbed knob on top (19-petaled chrysanthemum)...

A sometsuke dish of twelve sided dodecagonal form painted in a refined Kakiemon style. The rim border is divided into six fan shaped panels decorated with three sets of alternating floral compositions featuring respectively Bamboo, take, Peonies and rocks, botan, and shibagaki Brushwood fences. The centre painted with Cherry trees and a formal balustrades. The reverse is decorated with a Kraak style pattern of strapwork divisions and stylised flowers...

An Arita dish in Kakiemon style dating to the period 1670-90 decorated in Shikishi Chirashi style with “Shikishi”, shaped poem cards which were used for the composing of both Poems and Small Paintings ,scattered, chirashi, over an asymmetric arrangement of Kara Kusa with Baika, plum flowers. The paintings depicting clouds and a hermit’s refuge. The design is quite austere almost in wabi sabi taste ...

Unusual colored Imari porcelain sake server with panels depicting a beauty and a courtier, flying cranes in background with scrolling vine and shippo design, gilt bronze rim at opening. Colors of medium blue, orange, red, brown and black. With fluted sides and 6 character mark on recessed bottom. Good condition.

Antique small Hirado ware figure of a boar. Made of porcelain and glazed white with great detail and charming expression. Hirado ware was first developed in the village of Mikawachi located in the area of Kyushu which was, along with neighboring islands, controlled by the Hirado daimyo. Arabesque with flowers at the center, 3 chinese phenixes, 6 dragons are pictured around with fine brush strokes and octopus arabesque with blue glaze. The Size of Tea Pot: 6 1/2" Long x 5 1/2" Wide x 5 1/4" High. This very unusual Japanese Porcelain Tea Pot in Sometsuke (Blue and White).
