A comic scene in ink on paper of boys herding oxen by Nagasawa Rosetsu spreads across these two low screens. The central characters, one in the lead the second astride one of the behemoths crossing a bridge is distracted by a butterfly floating by above while the beast in front steps on its own rope, pulling his head back to the viewer with a quizzical expression. Other oxen and boys populate the background...

Description:

A fine Guanyin piece was well carved.
By well maneuvered carving skill, the holy deity was clad with flouring robe and was featured with benign facial expression.
Nice patina was preserved while some whitish abrasions were observed.
A wooden cork was filled in at the bottom.

Date: Early Qing periods, 17th century.

Condition: Very good, except some old cracks were found on the back(at the base).

Description: A very good example of bone carving which was imitated as an ivory piece was done in the 17th-18th century of Qing Dynasty. With image of the deity of Longevity--Soulou, the ancient piece was carved with mature craftsmanship. Dyed with warm brownish hue on the surface to imitate the patina of an aged ivory and burned the hollowed bone tunnel to imitate the ivory's cavity, it disguised the most discerning eyes...

Chinese Qing dynasty Qianlong period geyao type shallow bowl covered overall with a fine crackle glaze on a creamy white ground. The high foot rim is glazed on the exterior. The recessed base is glazed and the glaze extends part way up the inner side of the inward slanting foot where it ends with an orange burn line. Chinese Qing dynasty Qianlong period round form deep plate decorated in underglaze blue on a celadon-white porcelain ground with two deer standing in a rocky landscape under a pine tree with a bat flying at the upper left.
