An incredible mixture of colors glisten like the walls of a Limestone cave in the hills of Akiyoshidai, the karst regtion south of Hagi where the important artist Kaneta Masanao created this bowl, enclosed in the original signed wooden box.  The style is Kurinuki, not formed on a wheel but cut and worked from a block of clay, an approach the artist is famous for.  The coloration is unusual, a dramatic leap from his usual subdued lavenders and whites.

A mesh of copper draperies hang over the dark black of this unusually shaped Tsubo by Tenmoku specialist Kimura Moriyasu enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Shoju Tenmoku Henko. Shoju Tenmoku, literally Pine-Needle-Tenmoku, is a glaze technique where the effect joins in a mesh like pine needles overlapping, very difficult to pull off, but here Moriyasu has done it masterfully. Round serving platter in the "Toucans" pattern from Hermes, produced for Hermes by Moustiers France in their famous faience ware.

This redware pottery is heavier than the Limoges porcelain in which this pattern is usually found. The Moustiers ware is less common as fewer pieces were made due their being handmade with a raised design, except the plates which are flat.

The platter is 12 inches (30.5cm) in diameter, and is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. Marked.
