This beautiful oil on canvas by Don Doxie is titled "Bible, Boot and Bowler," and was painted in 1971. Doxie's still life paintings are so realistic that its incredible. You can see the wrinkled leather in the boot and the damage to the spine on the bible and its just like a photograph. This one measures 12" x 16".

This subtle, yet impressive mizusashi is by modern Karatsu legend; Nakazato Takeshi (b. 1937). A book of Yagi Kazuo works (number 203 of 800) dated 1969 with the cover inlaid with a ceramic work signed and dated Feb. 1967. Dozens of photographs of his work dating from the height of his fame as an avante Garde sculptor fill this 100 page book titled Simply “Yagi Kazuo”. The book comes in the original cover which is held inside a cardboard sleeve. The ends of the cover not encased in cardboard have yellowed some with age, but this does not affect the book within.

This rare Ido chawan is glazed in a milky ash, Hagi style glaze and was presumably made at the kiln of the Tenryu-ji temple (Kyoto-yaki) as it bares the seal of the kiln. The clay was made using ground roof tile, a piece brought back from China which is explained in the accompanying paperwork provided with the chawan. This chawan has an elegant form and well addressed kodai, foot and has red over glaze (aka-e) decoration of the kanji “JU” and the cipher of Seki Bokuo.

Large and impressive Iga chawan by rising Iga-yaki star, Atarashi Manabu.The surface of this chawan is covered in a sheet of glass and there is wonderful bidoro drips and clam shell impressions where the chawan was fired on its side. Large, oburi style Shiro-Hagi chawan with notched wari-kodai and profuse crackling around the bowl. I have no idea who made this large chawan as I can not read the seal, partially covered with glaze.

The are a few small spots of glaze loss as can be seen in the pictures, but all in all, this is a very handsome and strong chawan that looks great on a shelf. No box.

Robust, medieval styled mizusashi by veteran Shigaraki potter; Furutani Churoku IV (b. 1922). This face of this large mizusashi is covered in a wonderful layer of green ash and the back exhibits very fine hi-iro fire color. The base shows three areas where the pot was wadded during the firing and it is prominently signed; CHUROKU.
