Fine kutsu-gata hakeme chawan with flourishes of iron over the slip and under the clear, blue tinged ash glaze. The bowl is broad and fits well in the hand and has a crisp, well cut kodai that compliments the form and clay. Made by Goto Tetsu (Satoshi) who lives and works in Echizen (Fukui Pref.) at the Tsubaki-gama, he has spent a lifetime working within the Korean idiom combining Echizen and Karatsu pottery especially the gohonde and hakeme styles...

This is everything we could hope for in a bowl by this esteemed artist, Kakurezaki Ryuichi enclosed in th original signed wooden box.  The first photograph tells it all, with a superb, organic form displaying a hint of green ash on the rim over a burnished red bleeding into raw pale clay spattered with goma and matte reds with small inclusions peeking out through the clay surface.  The wide base and low stance create a very powerful presence.

Molten ash has crystallized into green glass on the front of this large faceted Chawan by Nishihata Tadashi enclosed in the original wooden box titled Aka-tsuchi OO Chawan recently-fired (2014) and signed Tamba Tadashi-Zo. A spectacular large vase by Kashima Aya featured at the “Ceramic Synergy Exhibition” held at the Kyoto Kyocera Museum of Art in late 2023. In fact, the initial form is created, then a thin layer of ceramic is made separately, dried, then cracked, and the individual pieces are applied like mosaic to the prepared form.
