Reminiscent of a perfectly formed oyster shell or the shell of a hermit crab, this recent creation by young artist Hiramatsu Ryoma demonstrates his creative imagination—influenced heavily by forms he discovered in nature. Described on the box as a “ammonite/ guinomi” (ammonite/ sake cup), Hiramatsu says his inspiration for this piece (and several others) came from an ancient form of sea life known as an ammonite—a large spiraled mollusk who’s shells are often found fossilized today...

A small bottle with ash draped from the shoulder like a traditional priest robe by Takeuchi Kimiaki enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Ko-tsubo. It is 10.5 cm (4 inches) tall and in excellent condition.
Takeuchi Kimiaki (1948– 2011) was born in Tokoname and started learning wheel throwing when he was a middle school student. He met his mentor Ezaki Issei at the Tokoname Ceramic School when he was 16 years old...

Serene and noble seihakuji koro by veteran and master potter Kishimoto Kennin. Published in an exhibition catalogue for a Takashimiya show (a xerox of the relevant pages are included) this seihakuji celadon koro is a classic example of Kishimoto's style and modernization of a traditional form. This koro is in excellent condition except one of the wing-like appendages was unfortunately damaged and has been repaired, please see the attached photo showing both sides of the area in question...

Large and bold yakishime wood fired chawan by Konno Haruo with crisp facets and a wide array of ash effects enveloping the bowl. The exterior is painted with wet and drier ash with the rear having a reddish, purple that accentuates the facets and makes them come to life. The interior and lip are covered in a wet ash that has a wonderful depth and at times you expect the ash to pour out of the chawan as if it were liquid...

Very fine Iga mimitsuki style hanaire by Furutani Michio with some vivid bidoro ash across the surface and rather expressive pottery marks made while the clay was still wet. I think it goes without saying that Furutani Michio was one of the most important anagama potters of the 20th century specializing in Iga and Shigaraki pottery.
