Though marked, the seal is unread. This chawan was purchased at a store in Hagi. The original owner could not wait the extra day for the wood box, so it is presented here in a Hagi store gift box. It was thought that this chawan was made by Notomi Choun, but I will leave the detective work to the next owner.

Pair of mentori, faceted style vases by Shigaraki master potter, Kohyama Yasuhisa (b. 1936). The vase on the left side of the photos is an early Shigaraki mentori vase that was wood fired in his first anagama kiln, the vase on the right is a Hakuyu glazed vase, glazed with a Hagi style white glaze which Kohyama uses to this day on his "standard ware" functional pottery...

Silver streaks the thickly potted blue sides of this large squared bottle vessel by important Kyoto artist Morino (aki) Taimei enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The vase is 8-1/2 x 4-1/2 x 10 inches (21 x 11 x 25 cm) tall and in perfect condition.
Taimei was born in Kyoto in 1934, and was first accepted into the Nitten National Exhibition at a relatively young age in 1957 (a year before graduating the Kyoto Municipal University of Fine Art!)...

A Large natsu-wan by chadogu specialist; Kamiya Eisuke. This teabowl is glazed in a rich yohen-tetsu-yu glaze that runs from rusty red tones at the lip to hare’s fur and glassy black drips in the mikomi and near the kodai with much of the glaze being infused with iron crystals trapped within the glaze. The mikomi is filled with a black glass and covered over in iron crystals and is like looking out into the night sky. The form feels wonderful in the hand as well as sitting inviting the viewer ...

Usui Kazunari was born in Seto city, Aichi in 1954, and graduated the Nagoya University of Art, sculpture division in 1977. An iconic work decorated with energetic graffiti by important potter Suzuki Goro enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The artist exuberance seems to over-run his pallet, covering all sides and becoming trapped in the vortex in the bottom. Inside the box lid the artist has scrawled a woman in ink and signed it like a painting.
