A fine example of the renowned still life paintings produced by French artist ROBERT CHAILLOUX (1913-2006), measuring 13" by 16" (20" by 23" in gold frame). The oil on canvas, signed at lower left, is in excellent condition. Chailloux exhibited at the Salon des Arts Francaises by 1940, and numerous times in subsequent decades. His work was shown at the Hermitage in Leningrad and the Pushkin Museum in Moscow in 1975...

Oil on canvas, 18 1/4" by 27 1/2" plus 3 1/2" wood frame, signed at lower right by the artist in Cyrillic and dated "51". This is a work of Russian impressionist LEONID BORISOVICH IANOUSH (1897-1978). His name has been spelled also as "Yanush". This is a finely executed work. Quite underrated currently, the artist was definitely professionally trained and very talented, his paintings spanning landscape, nudes and interiors...

An impressive oil on canvas scene of a central Parisian square in the late 19th century, complete with fountains, horse drawn carriages, and figures, on a rainy day, 24" by 36" (31" by 43" framed), signed at lower left by the popular contemporary painter who signs as "G. SHERMAN". The scene is reminiscent of Caillebotte's famous scenes of Paris, or perhaps of a number of other impressionist artists who favored the always popular subject matter...

Oil on canvas painting of a rooster painted blue against a red background, titled on reverse "Coq", signed at upper right (and I think "Nice" appears below that and the 1954 date), by the noted Spanish artist ANGEL PONCE DE LEON (1925-). The work measures 25 3/4" by 21 3/8" (28 1/2" by 24" framed). On the reverse is a long inscription in the hand of the artist: "A Ben Holtcon/toda amistad y gratitud/Angel Ponce de Leon/Palais Royal Marzo 55"...

Circa 1880, oil on canvas of 3 Shire horses in English countryside signed G. Melville. Melville was a 19th c artist and painter of English rustic scenes. Both the fame and painting are in excellent antique condition, measuring site size 29" x 35.5", framed 36" x 42.5".

Oil on canvas, 20" by 30", 27" by 37" as framed, apparently unsigned, the scene of (possibly) gypsies or other peasant folk in the splendid countryside, with their animals, wagons and household goods. In the far distance at left there is a view with another small wagon and house...

From our European Collection, a good and sizable 19th century oil on canvas, British School, depicting gothic ruins over an aqueduct at moonlight. The artist's skillful use of depth perspective, along with adept use of various shades of grays and blacks, all contrasted and backlit by a cloudy moonlit sky, combine effectively to create a wonderfully evocative and somber scene that captures well a time and place from centuries past.

Diana Leaving the Bath (Diane Sortant du Bain), after Francois Boucher (French, 1703-1770). Oil on canvas. 2nd half 19th century. Offered in an antique tin over wood frame. This is an unsigned 19th century copy of the Francois Boucher original that was acquired by The Louvre, in Paris, in 1852. This copy was probably created within twenty-five years after Boucher painted his original.

Oil on canvas large painting of an interior, 40" by 30", approximately 46" by 34" in white frame, signed at lower right by the artist ERWIN WENDING (1914-1993), and dated there "58". The image and colors used are rather expressionist, in the manner typical of the few Wending works that have appeared on the market. According to an online biography, Wending was born in Freiberg, Germany in 1914, the year in which World War One began...

Old master painting, the subject soldiers in an extensive landscape battle scene, some mounted, 16" by 24 3/4", unframed, on old canvas, relined long ago, not signed, but on the stretcher is written in old hand "Borgognone". JACQUES COURTOIS, 1621-1676, was well known for his skill painting battle scenes. As a result of his fame, centuries later, it is tempting apparently to attribute all unsigned battle paintings to his hand, or his studio, or circle...

Georges Lucien Boichard 19th Century French Portrait Painter This is an original oil on mahogany Panel by French artist Georges Lucien Boichard. This painting is signed and dated 1883 upper right. The painting measures 13 1/4X9 1/4 inches. It is housed in a period gilt frame with added inner liner. Boichard was a well known French Portrait artist. He lived in Paris and his work was accepted to the Paris Salon in 1880. The overall frame measures 23X19 inches.

This oil on linen is a subtle topical examination of rabbis in study and camaraderie in synagogue, most likely in Warsaw.

Konstantin Szewczenko (1915-1991) was born in Warsaw, Poland, studied at the Warsaw Academy of Arts, and participated in international exhibitions. He is very well known for painting Jewish genre and rabbinical scenes.

Federico Jiménez Fernandez was born in Madrid in 1841 and trained at the School of Painting, Sculpture and Engraving of San Fernando where he studied with José Gonzalez Bande. He traveled to Paris to continue his studies, as did so many other artists of the time...

Hermine David 1886-1970 French This is a fine original oil on canvas by French artist Hermine David 1886-1970. The subject is a group of strollers in Luxembourg Gardens, Paris. This painting done circa 1930 is signed lower right and measures 18 1/8X15 inches. Housed in a custom French style frame. Hermine was one of the Ecole de Paris artists. In 1918 she married Jules Pascin. Their association seems to have been an influence on the artwork of both artists.

According to Sotheby's London old master specialists, this painting is an ANTIQUE copy of the major museum work "Stormy Landscape with Philemon and Baucis" by artist SIR PETER PAUL RUBENS (1577-1640), one of the major figures in European art history. The original is presently in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, Austria...
