A pencil signed color print, titled at bottom margin "Springtime in Charleston", by listed South Carolina artist VIRGINIA FOUCHE BOLTON (1929-2004). The work, 13 1/2" by 16 3/4" (18" by 24" in gold metal framing) is pencil signed by the artist at lower right and numbered there 1551/3000. Fouche's watercolors of southern genre and familiar South Carolina scenes are offered at auction in the South.

One of a number of prints by this artist in my inventory, this is a fresh and clean rather early example of one of William Russell Flint's fine color reproductions issued in limited editions for collectors over a period of decades. Japanese limited edition woodblock print by Morihiro Sato (b. 1943) depicting white bellflowers. A student of Joichi Hoshi who was influenced by Hoshi's use of metallic pigments, the artist set the flowers and partial moon (or sun) against a metallic background. In 1968 Haku Maki completed his Animal Song series. It was 12 different prints, one for each year of the Chinese/Japanese zodiac. Each print had the title Animal Song and the kanji for the animal, which was not translated. This print, Animal Song [dragon], 14/50, is a beautiful Maki red. The dragon of the image is a very traditional Chinese character for dragon. In this print Maki used the theme dragon for the first time.
