A gray soapstone carving of a blubbery walrus, measuring roughly 8" by 2" by 2". These carvings, which make great paperweights, sold as tourist art in northern, Arctic regions of Canada at mid century remain popular, and a secondary market has evolved. The artist has reduced the familiar animal to a stylized, modern form. Condition is good with no chips. See several other similar works in my shop.

Early plaster of Paris group of Saint Anne and her daughter Mary. Saint Anne is seen teaching Mary how to read the Holy Scripture. When dating the little sculpture, the hairstyle of Saint Anne and the narrow waist of Mary’s dress points at a time around 1830 or the reign of Charles X in France. Pedestal and sculpture are separable, the pedestal with traces of an address, Middleton Street in London – probably the address of the original retailer. Plaster of Paris was a gypsum or chalk mixture...

When I first saw this piece, it screamed to me "Picasso". The 11 1/2" by 7 1/2" work is not signed, but the style, the slight glaze on the baked clay surface, the decoration, is suggestive of the ceramic Madoura works of Picasso. The item weighs just shy of three pounds. Condition is excellent.

An interesting and inventive sculpture of a performing elephant balancing upon a ball whilst supporting an acrobat with his trunk. The sculpture is solid bronze and cast in the lost wax technique, cire perdue. This method is able to faithfully reproduce all of the quirky textures that the artist has chosen. The sculpture is mounted on a white marble base and is, as far as I can see, unsigned.

Approximately 33cm high. Fine original condition. The weight is 3478 gm.
