Franco-Italian Sculptor Amedeo Gennarelli 1881-1943, “Ecstasy” Bronze , 17” …. Amedeo Gennarelli was a French/Italian sculptor. He was born in 1881 in Naples, Italy, but emigrated to Paris in 1913 and worked there until 1930, exhibiting at numerous Salons of the Societe des Artistes Francais. He is known for his work in the art deco style and for his depictions of the female nude, working in bronze, terra-cotta and wood. He died in Paris in 1943.

Alexander Ney Russian American contemporary sculptor " Flat Bird" N4 Alexander Nay brown terracotta carved figure of a bird,mid 1970s incised brown clay with a hole at back for mounting to a base, base not included. A fine pair of early 19th century  Italian Neo Classical recumbent male lions in conversation.these lions are hand hewn from Solid blocks of travertine, figures as well as bases from single blocks These sculptures were executed in Rome,early in tge 19th century and Purchased there by the family of August Vasaio. The family owned them throughout the 19th century and shipped them from their home in Pescara, Abruzzo to Washington DC in the 1940s L’ Enfant Gallery purchased them directly ...

The superbly modeled alligator head jaw moves on its hinged mouth when its lever is pushed. The head is emerging from from marshy grasses waiting to catch its prey. The alligator is mounted on ebonized oval support which is held by a gilt bronze rococo plinth.

Overall condition is very good to near excellent though the gilt patination shows minor losses or fading. The base is late 18th / early 19th C. though the alligator dates later in the century...

Large original signed bronze sculpture on wood base by Irma Rothstein (American, born in Russia, 1906-1971). Almost 20" high including base. In excellent original condition. Irma Rothstein was born in Rostoff, Russia, and studied art in Vienna before emigrating to the United States in 1938. She sculpted the busts of celebrities such as George Bernard Shaw, Hermann Broch, Alexandre Gretchaninoff, Ernest Hemingway, etc...
