I went and learned a lot about early plastics from Andrea DeNoto's book, " Art Plastic," and the best I can come up with is Thermoset Phenolic Resin. Written up in a humorous style, the note commends Rickenbacker for his flying victories and makes a number of humorous commentaries contemporary to the times, all referring to his then-budding career as an automobile manufacturer...

A vintage framed advertising picture extolling Grand Marnier. This 18-3/4 x 12-3/4" picture is in a shadowbox style frame with a Marnier bottle on an orange on the left side and a drinking couple with orange on the other on a printed background. This poster is cased with a reverse printed glass windowwith clouds and the Marnier slogan. The space between the print and glass gives a three dimensional effect to the ad. Made for and used on a Montreal Shipping Company Limited (1925-46) vessel, this 3-1/2" tall cream coloured ceramic mug has orange and blue trim and the MSCL logo on one side. A small (5 3/4" by 4 3/4" framed) printed poem titled "Mother Dear", with a sentimental message of the period, circa early 1930's. The gold paint and faint color at bottom appear to be hand-applied. On reverse is written in pencil "Billy/May 13 1934", and an old period framer's label from downtown Los Angeles adds further charm. A sweet item.
