Two glazes meet in the banded center of this deep Mashiko Tsutsu-chawan by Mingei Master and Living National Treasure Hamada Shoji enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Kake-Ai-Yu Dohimo Chawan.  The shape is very much in the Mashiko tradition, with a prominent ridge in the center (Do means the midriff, and himo is a line or chord) of a strong form which exudes confidence and strength born from utilitarian purpose.  It is a superb example of work by this most sought artist.

Offered separately are 2 complete sets of cased, OHAUS, brass PHARMACY weights dating to the 1950-60s.

The weights are housed in plastic, fitted cases and include tweezers for securing the various milligram weights. Each cased set offers a total of sixteen gram and ounce brass weights - 1 metric, small, coin-size weight and various, metal, gram and grain weights.

The cases measure 4.5 inches long x 4 inches wide x 1.75 inches high...

Judging by the tomobako, the shifuku, and the patina of the bowl, this piece was likely fired in early Showa (1926 - 1936) when Sosen was thought to be most active.

Perfectly formed and resting firmly on a well-grounded kodai (foot/ pedestal), this chawan is vivid, light in the hand, and has a calming presence. The artist, Asao Sosen (1897 - 1978), was known for making chagama furo (Japanese ornamental brazier used in tea ceremony) as well as “Unge” stoneware of various forms...

Whimsical Decanter by Fratelli Toso created circa 1960.

Decanter is of simple form with applied features resembling that of a sad dog, pleading coyly with upturned eyes. The clear green glass body has opaque lines running down from the top of the neck of the bottle to just below the top of the dogs ears and eyes. This is a wonderful vintage Japanese Raku style tea cup of Ohi ware, which was made about 50-60 years ago. The seal of 'Ohi' is stamped on the bottom. This tea cup has an amazing amber glaze.

The original wooden box is also included.

Ohi ware has become well known for its use of Ame-gusuri, or amber glaze. Being a Raku style, it was low-fired and is quite light and soft in the hands...

The fine crackled feldspar glazing of this Hagi composition contrasts nicely with the red ferrous clay of the base and the wrought silver globe resting atop. Along the lower half can be seen a geometric windowed pattern giving this incense burner a sense of dimensionality.

Vintage Japanese Tea Bowl of Kyo ware with laquered wooden box. This tea bowl was made around 50 years ago. The inside of the bowl is covered with gold glaze. Very rare.

Size: 7,7 cm height x 10,8 cm in diameter.

Antique Chinese porcelain waterpot handpainted in famille rose enamels on a white ground with peonies and prunus flowers with butterflies flying above. Glazed in white on the inside as well as the base. On the base is a four character Qianlong mark in overglaze blue surrounded by double borders.

Condition: Very good condition, no breaks or cracks
