Densely embroidered in extremely fine brick and satin stitch in silk thread on purple silk, the lozenge patterns are framed by Bokhara couching, where the metallic threads are laid in parallel and then fastened with tiny stitches, forming a relief pattern. This is a hinggi from east Sumba, probably dated to the mid to late 20th century. The weave technique is warp ikat, plain woven and hand spun cotton. It measures 132.08 x 274.32 cm and is in immaculate condition. Ikat is a resist-dye method of patterning textiles. This is a beautiful blue and white medium size brush or joss stick stand. It is decorated with the character “shou” meaning long life in the centre, with two kui dragon with split tails to the left and right of “shou” character, and scrolling foliage all over. The sides is decorated with lotus flower and below it is a ruyi head amidst scrolling foliage.
