This is a hinggi from east Sumba, probably dated to the mid to late 20th century. The weave technique is warp ikat, plain woven and hand spun cotton. It measures 132.08 x 274.32 cm and is in immaculate condition. Ikat is a resist-dye method of patterning textiles. This is a beautiful blue and white medium size brush or joss stick stand. It is decorated with the character “shou” meaning long life in the centre, with two kui dragon with split tails to the left and right of “shou” character, and scrolling foliage all over. The sides is decorated with lotus flower and below it is a ruyi head amidst scrolling foliage. A king-sized cotton duvet cover from Nepal, measuring 111 x 74½" inches (43.7 x 29.3 cm) in purple, red and green. The viúvavajra ("crossed vajra") and chevron motifs are depicted in wool thread in chain stitch. Condition: Excellent. The vajra (meaning diamond or thunderbolt) is believed to represent firmness of spirit and spiritual power and is displayed in the national emblem of Bhutan.
