A rare and complete group of an ox and carriage in grey pottery with remains of polychrome. China, Tang Dynasty (618-907). The result of the thermoluminescence test by Kotalla is consistent with the dating of this lot. The report is included in the sale. Dimensions: the carriage H. 32 cm, L. 23 cm, the ox H. 18 cm, L. 23 cm. Condition: very good, no visible repairs, although repairs on early pottery are quite common and accepted. A porcelain Kendi with powderblue glaze and decorations in gold, mounted with a silver lid and spout. China, Qianlong (1736-1795). H. 27 cm. Condition: wear to the gold decoration and wear to the silver (see pictures). The silver spout may have had a small lid, that was connected with a chain to the main lid of the Kendi. Note: Many Kendis were exported to Indonesia, it is very well possible that the silver mounts were added there. Provenance: Amsterdam private collection.

A finely carved cinnabar lacquer vase, decorated with figures and pagodas in a mountain landscape. The inside and bottom of the vase with blue enamel. H. 21 cm. Condition: several dents to the mouth and foot, pieces of lacquer missing. Please refer to the pictures. China, 19th century.

Comprising 20 figures: 4 carriers with a sedan chair, musicians and figures carrying objects. Made of pottery with purple and turquoise glaze, red and black pigments. The figures 19,5 cm tall, the sedan chair 22,5 cm tall (including the detachable roof knob). This group was excavated in the southeast of the Shanxi Province. It is very hard to find big groups like this. Condition: expected age wear, a chip to the inside of the front of the sedan chair, some glaze chips, but all pieces without repairs. The lid carved with a poem, one long side has a scene with three goats in a garden, the other long side has a scene with two figures in a garden with pavillions, one short side has a garden scene with a flying bird, the other short side is plain. On the inside of the box there painted Chinese characters, which possibly represent the name of the owner. China, 18th or 19th century. Measurements: L. 11 cm, W. 5cm, H. 4 cm. Condition: excellent, with beautiful wear and patina.

A rare and finely carved boxwood tobacco box that could be hung from a man's belt. The lid carved with a 3-dimansional pair of Fo dogs, the sides with floral carvings with a bird and a deer. The opening where once the rope was attached, is in the shape of two bats. China, 18th/19th century. Dimensions: L. 7 cm (excluding the wooden ring), W. 3,8 cm, H. 3,5 cm. Condition: excellent, with beautiful wear and patina.

A rare huanghuali scholar's box with it's original shiny varnish and original brass hardware. China, late Ming to early Qing, ca. 17th/18th century. Dimensions: L. 31 cm, W. 16 cm, H.10 cm. Condition: excellent original condition, only one brass loop at the front plate missing, a small piece of hardware on the lid missing and one of the wooden feet missing.

A very rare lacquered wood opium box. The outside decorated with poems, seals flower branches and a bird. The lid with brass handles. When folded out the lid and front become a tray. The box offers place to 5 pipe bowls and a lamp and has two drawers for tools. At the back of the mirror there is another compartment.Under the drawers there is space for a small metal tray. A very rare piece of opium paraphernalia. China, late 19th to early 20th century. Dimensions (closed): 23 x 16 x 14,5 cm. Excellent condition with expected age wear.

A very interesting set of 5 porcelain bowls with monochrome glaze, marked with maker's mark. China, late Qing or early Republic. H. 6,5 cm, Diameter 11 cm. Condition: small piece of glaze is missing on the inside bottom of the green bowl, the same bowl has a minor glaze imperfection on the outside. The rest of the set is in mint condition.

This set of seven Chinese porcelain bowls comes from the Diana shipwreck. It sank in March 1817 in the Strait of Malacca. The contents were recovered in 1994 and auctioned at Christie's in Amsterdam in 1995. Dimensions: Diameter 14 cm, H. 7 cm each. Condition: 5 bowls perfect, one with a chip on the mouthrim, one with a hairline crack. Every bowl has the original auction sticker.
