A spectacular Ikebana basket, dating to late Meiji or Taisho era, in beautiful condition. It measures 11 3/4" high (one side is slightly lower, 11 1/2") and is 15" wide. It retains the original metal liner. Woven of varying size strips of bamboo, the design is complex, demonstrating the fine skill of the basket maker. No breaks or losses, just minor wear from usage. By the workshop of the renowned maker Ryubundo (signed Kinryu-do on the bronze lid), this iron tetsubin measures roughly 8 1/4" from tip of spout to other side, and the handle reaches just about 8 1/2" high. The exterior is decorated with a dragon that reaches around the entire pot, in and out of waves and cloudlike forms, the entire surface decorated with these traditional motifs and rock like textures...

Meiping vase measuring 7 3/4' high, signed by Chikusai with Shimazu red crest, high relief enamel decoration of baboo trunks and leaves, with floral and foliate elements, with Gosu blue colors. Excellent condition, no chips, cracks or wear (slight loss of gilding on lip). Very artful, lovely design from all sides, with especially high relief of the enamel work.

Measuring 10" high, and 13" at the widest point on the flared lip, this unusual Oribe vessel is likely a hibachi. Round at the bottom, the lip flares outward in a square shape, and the drip glaze is typical of Oribe wares, with rich flowing colors from dark olive green to deep turquoise, with flecks and spots of black, with lighter blue sections. Measuring 8" x 6.75", the seated lion is cast upon an oval stepped plinth, and signed Barye. The surface is a deep brown patina, with slight wear in raised areas where it has been handled. The entire surface of the lion is well cast and detailed, with the musculature and fur clearly depicted. Antoine Louis Barye (French 1795-1875) is one of the renowned animalier sculptors of the nineteenth century, and his works are classical icons of this genre...

Of cold painted bronze, this sculpture was created by Franz Xavier Bergman (1861-1936) in the Vienna foundry that was opened by his father in 1860. The figure depicts a Chinese Golden Pheasant, and is one of numerous bronzes of birds by Bergman. Large size (11 3/4"), this bronze vase has applied sterling silver irises. The finish is bronze with verde sections visible, a mottled or variegated finish often utilized on Heintz Art Metal products.
