Japanese woodblock print of a sunset over houses. The sky is bright orange and yellow casting purple shadows on the tiled roof wall around a compound of rural houses. Signed in pencil by Katsuyuki Nishijima (born 1945) and number 34 in series of 500. Has red oval seal indicating early works. Unframed.

Antique Japanese large tsuba (samurai sword hand guard). Cast in iron with an intentionally uneven surface to suggest a sandy beach or rock and further decorated with mixed metal inlay in the form of a variety of sea shells. Shakudo and gilt copper stand out against the dark iron. With collector's kiri wood box.

An antique Japanese bellow (called Fuigo) made of Suginoki (Cryptomeria) wood. Used by sword makers and metal craftsmen to blow air into a Kama to increase the temperature of the fire.

An antique Japanese mill wheel made of Keyaki (Zelkova) wood on an iron base that was later added. Recent structural reinforcement with hardware for strength and durability. Currently designed for use as a coffee table or side table, it would add a Japanese folk art (Mingei) accent to any rustic decor.

An antique Japanese Kadai (natural wood display stand) used for Ikebana flower arranging as well as an accent stand to display precious objects. Made of burl Hinoki (Cypress) from near the roots of the tree trunk. A beautiful Peacock open train pattern emerges from the wood grain.

An antique Japanese Tansu chest called Todana made of Kiri (Paulownia) and Sugi (Cryptomeria) woods. All original hand forged iron hardware including the Hikute style handles with an Urushi lacquer finish. Two sliding doors open to a storage area with a removable shelf where books were stored. Five drawers below provide additional storage and function.

Japanese vintage kimono made of navy blue silk with embroidery of chrysanthemums on long vines down the front, and branches with cherry blossoms on the sleeves. The backside has a large, beautiful bunch of embroidered chrysanthemums and cherry blossoms cascading down with two small birds in flight. The collar is lined with a charming fabric of dragons, flowers, and oriental designs. Size: 53.5" height, 47.5" width

A print by Shiko Munakata, 1903-1975. A zen Buddhist, he worked in oil painting, then woodblock printing, calligraphy and ceramics. He is sometimes called the Japanese Picasso because of his prolific multi media creative work. He was part of the sasuka-hanga movement and the mingei, folk art, movement. He is from the northern region of Aomori and incorporated many of those local themes into his art. This is a black and white print of three women dancing. This print measures 11.75" wide by 15.5" ...
