Rare antique Indonesian textile that is a jataka of tales of Rama with forty-nine painted scenes with script on top of scenes, wondrous scenes of monstrous sea creatures and key scenes of life of Rama are depicted in charming traditionally painted scenes outlined in wood-like columns with black with blues, reds, khaki greens, on beige background. Made of fine cotton on stretched frame.

A pair of Japanese negoro lacquer temple ritual sake offering containers, rich dark red lacquer over a black lacquer with a graceful body and a wishing ball stopper, Gigoshi, with a spiral design. The pair used for Buddhist purification and fulfillment rituals, and show the patina of respectful use.

Pair of finely detailed full size silver Japanese temple candlesticks. Embossed with wild flowers and scrolling vines. Blooming flowers are seen from the base, up the stem to the top. Gorgeous original patina consistent with age. Overall very good condition.

An antique Japanese Sado Island Kasane Tansu made of Kiri (Paulownia) and Sugi (Cryptomeria) woods. All original hand forged iron hardware (including Warabite handles) and wiped Urushi lacquer finish. The metalsmith showcased his talent adding Chrysanthemum corners to each drawer front and Mum backplates to each handle. As if that were not enough, the tansu maker added iron plating to the front frame showcasing the individual drawers.

A rare Japanese antique Sado Island Child's Kimono Tansu made of Kirinoki (Paulownia) and Suginoki (Cryptomeria) woods. Original natural Urushi wiped lacquer finish with hand forged iron hardware. A wonderful example of a carved an painted mid 18th C. Mongolian storage cabinet with flat table top surface. Still retains its original pigment with floral motif seen along with the floral handcarved drawer fronts. Footed base support legs float the chest off the ground. Very sturdy and strong in construction. All original hand forged iron is there and complete.

A rare antique Japanese Kyushu Choba Tansu (merchant chest from Kyushu island) made of Keyaki (Zelkova) and Suginoki (Cryptomeria) woods. The frame of the chest was made using Suginoki wood measuring a very thick 1 1/ 8". Constructed with straight dovetail Japanese joinery and hardened wooden nails. It has 5 drawers and a pair of hinged doors that open to a spacious storage area with a split level shelf. All original hand forged iron hardware.

Antique Japanese suzuki-bako, calligraphy box. Lacquered with a profusion of wildflowers in gold maki-e technique on black lacquer ground. The underside of the lid is beautifully preserved with more wild flowers growing near a swirling stream. An antique Japanese Kyoto Mizuya Tansu (kitchen chest) in 2 sections made of Keyaki (Zelkova) and Hinoki (Cypress) woods. All original hand forged iron hardware with bronze sliding door handles and Warabite style drawer handles. 3 sets of sliding doors each set progressively larger with removable shelf behind each set. A very large example of an antique Japanese Baku corbel used in a temple or shrine. The Baku is a mythical spiritual creature which resides in the Buddhist realm. Its purpose is to devour evil spirits as well as one's nightmares. Carved from one solid block of Keyaki (Zelkova) wood, this architectural sculpture has stood the test of time.

Pair of pre-war Art Deco era side stands. Heavy, solid wood with burl wood overlay. Each stand has a drawer with an open display shelf just below. The lower portion of each stand makes an artful curve into another open shelf. Great condition with excellent burl wood figuring.

Pair of antique Tibetan snow lions. Made of gilded bronze with polychrome details. Wild, open mouthed expressions and paws over heads. These lions were once part of a Buddhist display. Snow lions are thought to be the king of beasts to the Tibetan people. They personify joy and bliss and represent the hermits and yogis that live in the Himalayas. It is believed that the milk of the snow lioness is the essence of the Dharma.

Antique Japanese pair of bronze warrior attendant figures. Dressed in Chinese armor and holding tall poles. Their tight curls suggest the mains of fu-dogs. Made of bronze with mixed metal details. The figures stand on square, footed platforms. Intricately sculpted with great movement and expression.

An antique Japanese scholars table with inlaid mother of pearl (Raden). The top features a landscape scene with blooming Wisteria, a tree with flowers, birds, water side huts, borders and rippling waves of water. The scene is surrounded by a checkerboard design with a raised lip. Gold makie lacquer highlights the designs on a chestnut brown hardwood.
