Scarce as a complete set in this quality with brass rims and profusely inscribed with owners names and fine pewter touchmarks. The Quarter mug (1 quart Imperial capacity) is quite large and would probably have contained nearly a liter liquid. An extremely rare matching pair of large pewter wine jugs, Germany, Marburg, dated 1740.

Fantastic execution and made for a very wealthy client in c. 1740, which is engraved on the lid beneath the name of the commisioneer - JOHANNES HAAS. The jugs are stamped with a Marburg 'Feinzinnmarke' - a pewter touch mark from the city in Germany. The master given is Johann H Werlin, a meister working out of Marburg.

Profusely decorated over the entire surface with two soldiers, one holding a sword, the other soldier a helbard, on either side of a Free Masons symbol of crossed tools under an elaborate crown. Facial masks and Guild symbols below. The lid beautifully engraved with a German text, reading BIS BRÜDERLICE EINGIKEIT 1665. A tankard probably made as a memorial of the founding of the Guild.

Antique over 200 years old, from 1823, massive German pewter lidded beer tankard stein.

It features a tapered cylindrical shape with molded rims, a "C" section handle with a squared-off terminal, and a flat, domed hinged lid with a ball thumbpiece.

The stein lid is engraved with the inscription: "Die PilgrimSchaft Derd Der Sterblichkeit," along with the date 1823. The stein is marked underneath with the maker's and the town's touchmark.
