Late 1800s

These bottles are decorated in underglaze cobalt blue and colored enamels with a design of various painted fans floating on an iron red enamel ground that is covered with gilt spirals. The interiors and mouthrims are clear glazed. The bases are glazed clear and the footrings are unglazed, exposing the fine white porcelain paste. They are signed Kozan (Dai Nippon Kozan Sei) in underglaze blue. Both are in very good condition...

Very large tile in the shape of (and virtually in the size of) a handscroll decorated in underglaze blue with a crashing wave and a full moon. The image is surrounded by borders of geometric flowers and medallions filled with a phoenix. Some of the phoenixes looks left, others look right. Medallions colored in underglaze pink and yellow.

On the back are two ‘loops’ to hang the tile up...

Antique Japanese set of 9 Imari ware chargers, beautiful and rare, unusual dark blue and orange colors in central lotus leaves motif with gold details, striking scrolling designs and pheonixes in light blues, reds and green, each is signed on back, Meiji Period (1868-1912). Seeded fruit are enameled over a blue underglaze on this 7" Nabeshima porcelain footed dish.

Circa 1880, this large 16.4" x 2" Imari charger is decorated with two village scenes finely painted in red, yellow, black and gold with a background pattern of blue and gold vines.

19th century miniature Hirado porcelain sculpture of a karako (Chinese boy) lying on his back, the upper part of his body raised up. Could have been used as a brushrest. Excellent crisp modeling with incised details - see his wonderful face, well defined hands and clothing details. Beautiful glaze with numerous tiny bubbles giving it depth, unglazed bottom, in excellent condition, very pleasant to the touch. Typical Hirado underglaze blue and brown highlights. Length 2 3/8 inches.

Japanese sake cup, well painted with Hyakunin or one hundred poets motif, late Edo or early Meiji. Red overglaze mark of Kutani, and possibly the name of the artist. Height "2¼/ 5,5 cm. Condition: fine.

A Kakiemon style porcelain six lobed dish. Cobalt blue underglaze and red, green, yellow, blue and black outline overglaze enamel decoration of 'three friends of winter' (pine, bamboo and prunus). Assymetry of decoration, as well as palette, typical of Kakiemon type porcelains. But the quality of decoration (though good inside the dish), potting and mark speaks to a more general 'Arita' attribution. Some kiln grit adheres inside the foot rim. 19th century...

This polychrome piece was made in Imari with Kakiemon-style in last 18th century. It has been transmitted from generation to generation in Japan with wooden box. From our Japanese Collection, a truly spectacular, massive, and published pair of imari double gourd vases, late Edo to early Meiji Period circa 1855 -1875, executed in the typical imari palette of iron-red, blue, orange, and gilt, with birds and dragons set against the "Three Friends of Winter" design of pine, prunus, and bamboo.

The double gourd shape is a very desirable form for imari collectors, but rarely is it encountered in such monumental proportions like this massive pair...

An 8.5" blue underglazed Imari bowl painted in gilt, orange and blue. The center medallion features a ship, fierce dragons prowl the inner and outer sides of this bowl.

Condition: Gold paint on the upper rim is worn. No chips, hairlines or repairs.

A splendid Japanese Hirado reticulated censer. The censer has a reticulated lid and body with shishi lions on the side and chrysanthemum foliate decoration on the neck with a square base. Body and base has blue and white flower and crackled pattern. 19th century. Size: Length: 3.8" Width: 3.8" Height: 6.9".

Japanese Meiji period "aka-e" (red) Kutani deep bowl finely decorated on the interior in overglaze rust-red and gilt highlights with three cartouches featuring two scholars in a bamboo grove, a bird in flight over foliage, and a spray of flowers, all set against a dense geometric patterned background. The exterior is decorated in three vignettes featuring foliage on rockery, a landscape scene, and a scholar reading a book. The base holds a red three-character "Kutani made" mark...

Late 19th century Nabeshina porcelain portrayal of Mt Fuji against a celadon ground. This signed 7" plate is in very good condition with only minor surface scratches from use.
