Finely detailed carved bamboo bitong with five panels depicting classic three friends of winter and scholar themes. I bought this in Guangxi Zhuang, in 1995, late Republic period. There is a hole intentionally drilled at the bottom, otherwise excellent condition. H: 13.4cm/5.2in and D: 6.8cm/2.8in.

Beautiful dish or bowl with a landscape and cottages in Famille rose colours and gold within a diaper border in pale turquoise. Early Qianlong, first half of the 18th century. Diameter "9¾/ 24,8 cm and height "1½/ 4 cm. Condition: two hairlines, one piece reglued (cf. pics).

Tang terra cotta image of a Fat Lady. Traces of original pigment with legible facial features (note noted in enlargements). This is the smallest one I have ever seen- miniatures are extremely rare. H: 6.2cm. The bottom is uneven (just appears to have been made that way) there are traces of glue where it was probably once attached to a stand, otherwise, good condition- no damage or repair.

A timely and quirky soy brown glazed Korean War era chopstick holder with political slogans. The left hand column translates as “support your family and the Chinese military”, the right hand “oppose America, support Korea” and the top characters “increase productivity”. Possibly used in a factory canteen this is the only ceramic I have ever seen from this brief period...

Silk panel embroidered with colored threads and golden metallic ribbons, it seems to be gold because the metal is not oxidized. The tail of the phoenix is embroidered with dark gray metallic ribbons, certainly silver that has oxidized. A Five-Clawed Dragon surrounded by clouds and a Phoenix holding a flower in its beak, compete for the sacred pearl. At the bottom a rock is represented on which waves are breaking...

18th century off-gray Chinese translucent jade plaque to be sawn onto clothes with pierced and carved design of the Three Friends of Winter - pine, prunus and bamboo - celebrated for the fact that they do not wither as the cold days deepen into the winter season unlike many other plants. Old nephrite chord fastener, this shape and style are usually associated with horse tack and bridles. This archaic style has been found in the Tang and Liao periods. L: 2.7cm/1.1in, W: 2.1cm/o.8in and 1cm/0.4in thick. 12 grams.

Chinese Famille Jaune Porcelain Ginger jar,7" high, 7 1/2" wide-widest middle section, 2 3/4" diameter-top rim, 5 5/8" diameter-bottom, Ca. 1920, with overglaze famille Jaune design with Chinese Happiness characters with Bats on top and bottom inside four(4) Cartouches and Peony flowers decorated outside. There are some glaze crazing and scratches on the surface.

A pretty and delicate Chinese Porcelain Dish decorated with butterflies and gourd vines in polychrome enamels upon a striking turquoise background, Republic Period, very good condition, size: H. 2cm x 14cm diameter

Made from ox horn, and shaped into a perfectly balanced shoehorn, this antique Chinese folk art artifact serves in both form and function. There is a delicately carved design on the back. The handle part of the horn has eyes carved so that the piece takes the shape of an animal and there is a hole carved so that the shoehorn can be hung from a cord. I vaguely remember hearing that the Chinese inventing the shoehorn, but have not been able to verify this as historic fact.

A small Chinese brass handwarmer with pierced lid and carrying handle. The lid has many vent holes, some of which are shaped like stars. and these organize the round holes into what looks like many plum blossoms. The warmer measures 3 1/4' high (5 1/2" high with handle up) x 5" in diameter, and dates to the late 19th Century. There is a Chinese character chiseled on the base which translate to "to set on fire"...

Chinese Red Lacquer on Natural tree Branch Wood Walking Stick or Cane, carved Scholar Handle, 30" high, 9 1/2" wide-carved Scholar Handle, naturally polished by using for many years, tip of handle shows some lacquer loses.

This pair of matching fans came from an old wealthy collectors estate..along with several others. This pair is in pristine condition with dark wood handles (possible zitan wood) and fan section is basket type weave of unknown plant fiber, the silk tassels have gold bindings...

These antique iron stirrups probably belonged to a low level horse soldier of the Chinese army during the Qing dynasty. They are well patinated.

Late Ming Dynasty (beginning of the 17th century) small fine celadon jade plaque for sawing onto clothes with carved design of a Chinese Immortal wearing a long robe and holding a tall staff. Beautiful material, true nephrite jade, nice work, wonderful feel of age. Height 1.27 inches, weight 7.2 grams.

Late Qing Dynasty Chinese soapstone sculpture carved as a court lady holding a basket with fruit. Wonderful precise carving, beautiful tranquil face, elegant flow to the lines of her robe. Cream colored soapstone with red patches, great warm patina, marked with two carved characters on the bottom, in excellent condition. Height 3.64 inches.

Delicately carved with a floral motif, is horn was used to give domestic animals medicine. It is Chinese ethnic minority probably from Inner Mongolia. Horn is about 6" long and has small chip at the end of the bowl. It is a wonderful ethnographic piece for the tribal arts collector

19th century Chinese fingering piece in a form of a double walnut. Relatively rare cojoined shells, excellent piece to use for meditation practice with clever natural design, richly textured surface, Wonderful warm patina from more than 100 years of handling, incredibly pleasant to hold. Very fitting object for a scholar’s desk. Length 1.7 inches.

Chinese stoneware jar with two loop handles, high neck with small, rolled rim, and flat bottom. The jar is amber glazed only at the upper shoulder with a few drips extending down onto the body. This vessel is likely an example of Guangdong ware produced in Fujian province. 7” diameter x 6 1/4" high. Probably dates from the Southern Song to Yuan (12th to 14th century). Very good overall condition. From the collection of a former American expatriate to Guangdong province in 1983-2984.

Chinese blue and white porcelain Incense Burner or censer, made in later part of 1800's to early 1900's' 3 3/8" high, 7 1/4" diameter, various style of bands in underglaze blue, unglazed area inside half way down to the bottom. Black ink writings on the bottom under the thick white glaze round dot, about 3/4" wide. No damage or restoration.

Very beautiful stone with extensive red veining giving extra depth to the carving - probably Shoushan soapstone. Chinese Foo Dog Green glazed Stone ware Pottery Joss Stick Holder, 9 1/2" high, 3" wide, 4 1/8" deep, Hole in the backside of the head for holder for Joss Stick, the condition is good with some small loose green glaze which is very typical for this type of stoneware items.

Chinese Famille Jaune Porcelain shape Jar, 8" high, 8 1/4" wide-widest middle section, 3 1/2" diameter-top rim, 6 1/2" diameter-bottom, Ca. 1920, with overglaze decoration of Chinese Happiness Characters with two(2) bats inside four(4) round Cartouches surrounded by sprays of pink Peony flowers. Chinese Export wax seal is placed on the bottom, some glaze crazing inside the jar, and minor wears caused by many years of usage in the kitchen.

Late Qing Dynasty (1890s to 1911) embroidered Chinese textile rank badge (also called mandarin square) denoting the third civil rank symbolized by the bird on the badge - the Peacock. Designs on background include peach, pomegranate, fish, shell and bats in flight among clouds and above the fungus of Immortality over the waves. Keyfret borders with peach, pomegranate and Buddha’s hand citron motifs, colors slightly faded, newer black velvet backing. Size 9x9.5 inches.

A traditional blue and white peony design Chinese porcelain wine pot with original lid. The pot measures about 6" high x 3" in diameter and 7" wide, and dates to the mid 18th Century, . LIAO Dynasty Terracotta Buddhist Votive Plaque/Amulet, China, AD. 907-1125, with very fine details. Nicely mounted on wooden base. Originates from a group of varied tablets sizes that were excavated, most likely from the foundations of an ancient Buddhist temple, placed there to ensure success and prosperity. Condition: good, inconsequential hairline/chip, no restorations. Size: 2.75" (7 cm.)

This panel displays a scene of two people in a landscape setting, one holding a flute and the other holding a fan. It was later bordered with a black silk band which has slightly separated from the panel in two areas at the top and bottom, as seen in the photographs. There are also some old stains that have little effect on the image.

The doodoo was an element of Chinese woman's costume which was worn covering the chest. This one has a money pocket ant is in pristine condition. With silk embroidered flower decoration on a satin weave cotton background fabric. The back is a simple piece of somspun indigo dyed fabric

This is a very fine old Chinese shallow bowl made in the popular Butterfly pattern. It is in very good condition with minor wear and a tiny flea bite to the glaze on the rim. It measures 9 1/2 inches across and 1 1/2 inches deep.

Chinese Blue and White Porcelain Barrel shape Bird Dish, or Bird Feeder, late 1800's to early 1900, 2 1/4" wide include Bamboo fitting, 1 1/2" high, underglaze Blue design of the mountain with trees and lake scenery, still Bamboo "Long Life" carved Character fitting is attached and holding with Bamboo Pin on the side. This Chinese pinafore style garment would have been worn by a small girl child of the Dong ethnic minority in Shui Kou. Fabric is handwoven from cotton fiber, hand stitched with intricate decorative applique work and hand woven snowflake pattern ribbon accents the border. No rips, no tears, and no holes...but this piece is old and has been worn and is a bit "dirty".... and still has its original ties. It is 14 inches wide and 21 inches long...great ethnographic textile for framing.

Chinese Blue and White Porcelain Censer, 3 1/4" high, 7" diameter-top rim, 3 5/8" diameter-bottom rim, Ca. between 1880 - 1920, with underglaze blue bands of geometric Chinese symbol decoration outside, inside half way down is unglazed. Bottom outside is unglazed with some black script. The condition is good, no damage.

Spectacles were only affordable for the very wealthy in China during the 1800's. The lenses were ground from crystal of various shades. Because of the cost, if a lens or frames were broken the remaining pieces would be refitted into a replacement set...as happened with this pair of antique Chinese eyeglasses. The vestiges of the original fitting remain on the left lens.
