Superb "tsampa" bowl made of a wood core entirely covered with repoussé silver decorated in relief with the eight Buddhist symbols around its body surmounting a floral design. Beneath, a decoration representing a coiled dragon in relief framed by floral designs. Tibet, 19th century. Height: 2 3/16" (5,7 cm). Diameter: 4 1/2" (11,5 cm). A few dents, obvious signs of age, otherwise very good condition.

The cover decoration of this box, executed in an extremely nice cobalt blue, is well known as the central medallion of the inner decoration of some extremely rare underglaze blue Imperial Chenghua "Palace Bowls". It is a single stylished flower head, represented in a style resp. in a manner which we only do know from the Chenghua period. Ming Dynasty, Jingdezhen ware, 1465 - 1487. Diameter : 4,4 cm. H : 3,6 cm. Condition: Perfect.

From our Shipwreck Porcelain Collection, a fine blue and white dish, ex-Christie's, executed in the "Peony and Pomegranate Pattern" from the so-called "Nanking Cargo," which is the term applied to the porcelain recovered from the wreck of the Geldermalsen that sank on January 3rd, 1752. The Geldermalsen was a cargo ship belonging to the Dutch East India Company that struck a reef on its way back from Canton China, and sank off the coast of Indonesia in the Linnga archipelago...

A rare brushpot caved in coconut. On one side 1 temple surrounded by 1 dragon with a fish tail (Makara) and a fish. On the other side 2 dragons surrounding the sacred pearl which curiously has the shape of an inverted heart. We can see the same heart on a coconut box illustrated on page 96 of book 44 of the complete collection of the Palace Museum...

A set of archaic stone carvings were rarely found in pairs.
Obviously excavated from an ancient noble people's tomb, the pairs was used as protection guardians...

A rare 17th Century (probably late Ming) carving of the Hehe Erxian - the Twin Immortals of Union and Harmony - in typical pose, one holding a basket and the other holding its 'contents' - a bat a symbol of happiness. Condition - good - there are natural cracks and flaws to the stone but no damages or losses...

Chinese Porcelain brush pot with oxblood glaze over white porcelain. Underside is marked with cobalt blue double rings. Shows use,some minor ware. Dates from the 20th century.

Japanese five section lacquer inro in the hiramaki-e technique. The low relief gilt lacquer adds depth throughout the landscape composition of pine forest, distant ocean, mountainous terrain, and the famous Uji bridge. The black ground lacquer also shows the use of nashiji gold flecks creating mist and cloud formation. The interior of the compartments are covered with the nashiji gold flecks, resembling a pear skin effect...

Late Meiji period (1890s to 1912) Japanese wooden kushi (hair comb) with gold lacquer decoration of a leafy vine, design continuing on the other side. Beautifully made out of dense wood allowing for fine teeth, superb lacquering, wonderful work in Japanese taste, some wear as can be seen on photos. Length 4.2 inches.

A high grade Japanese Kura samurai saddle detailed in high relief lacquer. The maewa (front arched plate) and shizuwa (rear arched plate) display a lacquer relief carp climbing a waterfall motif. The maewa and shizuwa are connected by two igi (contoured side bands). The igi rest on either side of the horse's spine and serve as the under frame for the leather seat (basen or kura tsubo) and are slotted for stirrup straps (chikara-gawa or gekiso) to pass through. An exceptional, large bronze figure of the seated Buddha, Thailand, KAMPHAENG PHET, 15th. Century.

The figure is depicting Buddha in his moment of triumph over Mara, and awakening into an eternally blissful consciousness. It is rendered in the Kamphaeng Phet style, which echoes that of neighboring Sukhothai, but with subtle differences, such as sharper overall facial features and eyebrows that form a continuous line above the bridge of the nose...

Rare Japanese silk jacket with a woven scene from an old Edo period tale about a trickster tanooki (also known as raccoon dog or tanuki) and a nobleman or samurai who is holding a pipe. In excellent condition, the black silk is satin silk, fine and smooth.
