Quirky Cizhou type, heavy, completely black glazed, waisted beaker from circa Ming Dynasty. Possibly this was used in a Chinese Apothecary, but this is just a best guess to its function. The hole on the bottom was made prior to firing and is part of the original design. Lovely thick glaze and aside from a couple of chips on the outside of the foot, in very good condition. An Early Japanese Bronze Mirror, Kagami, Circa 1600. (No.1) This bronze mirror (kagami) was almost certainly made in the Momoyama period. It has a turtle (minogame) as a central boss, pierced for a cord. It also features a pair of cranes, their beaks touching the head of the turtle as in the act of kissing. Magnificent antique Chinese Wucai procaine large baluster vase, 17th century, transitional period, circa 1650.

The vase is decorated to the body with finely hand-painted four large lobed panels with a band of Ruyi heads, all reserved against a trefoil ground of iron red.

Each panel encloses figures in landscape scenes. The shoulder is decorated with flower heads amongst profuse scrolling tendrils, and the base is encircled by a border of overlapping leaf tips.
