Matsue Hariko Koma, paper mache horse from Matsue, Shimane Prefecture. H.3.25"(8.5cm) x L.3"(7.5cm) x W.1"(2.5cm). Ca. early 1970's, made by H. Kimura. Painted paper, straw tail. Matsue paper mache dates back to the Edo Period (1600-1868) and has a wonderful robust charm. The horse, in this rural area, is a symbol of good harvest. Matsue is known in the West as the long-time Japanese home of writer Lafcadio Hearn (1850-1904.)

This vase is in exceptional condition, having no cracks, chips or repairs. The vase is heavy, thick walled, and has a lovely Chartreuse color. Circa 1960's-70's, this Matl jeweled cross produced by Ricardo sits on a pedestal and is a hand-wrought work of art. Ricardo Salas worked with his aunt, Matilde Poulat. After her death in 1960 he continued producing her designs, as well as his own. After 1980, Matl Salas pieces were also marked with MS-12. This cross pre-dates that mark. A sterling silver wine funnel in a classic Georgian design by the luxury English silversmith Asprey & Co. The upper rim is simply decorated in a beaded pattern. The strainer bottom is pierced in a starburst design. The piercing will strain out the larger sediments, and the funnel opens so a piece of muslin or a screen can be inserted to filter even the smallest sediments during decanting. The funnel is fully hallmarked by Asprey and bears the date letter for 1984.

Each cake is molded with designs of scholars on the fronts and raised calligraphy on the reverse. The designs on the front are all gilded in two shades of gold, and the reverse has gilt seals and some script gilded as well. Each piece is unused and is in good condition.

Yukata (cotton unlined kimono) with shibori (tie-dye) whose motifs are tomoe (three-way), aboshi (fishing net being dried) and a logo with the character uma (horse). The shibori techniques are: Miura shibori and Ori-nui shibori (folded and stitched). It is hand-sewn and all tie-dye is by hand. Vegetable indigo dyed. Large set of foxhunting dummy boards made by English company Duberry & Whatsit. Includes 12 pieces total, 6 horses and 6 fox hounds. Paper on fiberboard. Largest horse/rider measures 12" tall. Hounds measure approx. 6" tall. Each horse/rider and dog has a name. Made in the early 80's a hard set to find. Very good vintage condition. One hound has paper peeling off leg and one is missing a 1/4" chip in his tail. On removeable bases.
