Unusual Japanese painted pewter scroll weight in a form of a seated boy wearing a shishi costume used in shishimai dance, one of his legs outstretched. Very well cast, pleasantly heavy, nicely painted, some wear to paint as can be seen on photos. Feels very nice in a palm, very appropriate piece for scholar’s desk. Length 2 1/4 inches.

The traditional embroidery of Kandahar ("khamak" in Pashto) is exquisitely fine and extremely labor intensive. Chinese Wooden Rice Cake Mold, 21" long, 2 1/4" wide, 1 5/8" deep, with natural deep cracks in the wood, it is heavy weight one(1) piece of wood.

Tall vessel of square shape, cut out of a section of a Paulownia (kiri) tree showing knots on three sides, where side branches used to be. The wood is stained dark brown. One side of the vessel is decorated with inlays/appliques and lacquer paint. The appliques colored with gold sprinkle, silver flakes and green lacquer.

A large lidded basket, 21" high and 15" diameter, circa mid to late 20th century, likely of Indonesian origin. The handwork is impressive as is the design. Condition is good, there seems to be a slight asymmetry at bottom, with a little "lean" there, and "$20" was written on bottom at some point in time. Compare to images of baskets from Indonesia. Tombodama can be translated as “dragonfly ball” and the name is thought to come about because when the molten glass is applied to the core bead it resembles a dragonfly’s eye. Rare semi antique supplementary warp silk embroidery on handspun indigo cotton, blanket from the diverse Tai ethnic group Vietnam/Laos. I collected this in Chiang Mai around 12 years ago and would date it around 40 to 80 years old. Nowadays you just can’t find this sort of textile anymore. Some embroidery losses and a hole along the edge (noted in enlargements) but overall in very good condition. Dimensions: 84cm/33in x 145cm/57in.
