A wonderful and amusing hooked rug depicting an aardvark. I have collected many rugs featuring animals but have never seen another with an aardvark. Well, at least I think this is someone's interpretation of an aardvark, or possibly a beaver, armadillo or pangolin. Whatever the craftsman was aiming for, one has to smile at this, and at the pinkish salmon background color surrounded by a scalloped teal border. Cotton yarn and with original burlap foundation.

A charming tinsel (foil) painting depicting a variety of flowers in an urn placed on a stone slab. Dating from the last half of the 19th century, the painted frame, worth a bit of money on its own, is likely earlier, with a wood backboard The painting is in fine condition, with only some very small minor speckles in the black background. The frame could use a little spiffing up. Sight size is 9 1/2" by 13 1/2", and the framed size is 13 1/4" by 17 1/8".

A Russian icon, Theotokos of Kazan, also Our Lady of Kazan, depicts the Theotokos Mary with the Christ, produced in wood, tempura, silvered brass oklad with cloisonné enamels on the nimbus. A hand painted plaque is mounted below the image. Condition is excellent with one piece of missing enamel. This fine icon dates to the 19th C., most likely late. Dimension: 12 1/4" x 10 3/4"

A rare early Ortodox Icon of Saint Nikolaus (or Saint Nicholas), stamped and dated, Moskva, 1875.

Finely handpainted Icon with a beautifully chiseled Ritza in high grade silver 84 of Skt. Nikolaus, Madonna and infant Jesus.

Height: 22,5 cm. and 18,3 cm. wide.

Condition: Choice for the high age and the silver lightly toned with gilt on all Halos, some light wear as seen in the pictures.

This is an excellent quality authentic antique Russian Orthodox blessing Cross from the 18th-19th century. It is made of brass and adorned with beautiful blue enamel. The upper part of the cross features the Holy Face and two angels, with the sun and moon at the ends of the central bar. Japonesque mixed metal napkin ring. Made by Gorham in Providence in 1882. Hand-hammered sterling silver ring applied with cooper ornament: A man in pointy hat is seated on the ground, smoking while a small dog approaches from behind, interrupting the opium-induced serenity. Above is a darting butterfly. Engraved name “Edward Hegeler”. Hegeler (1835-1910) was a German-born American industrialist and publisher. Fully marked including maker’s stamp, no. 675, and date letter...

Folk Art Duck Decoy hand carved from wood with yellow eye created from a thumb tack, 19th century. The bird is painted black with white highlights and a grey bill. It has a leather strap on the base for pulling the decoy in the water.
CONDITION: signs of wear on leather and on the base of the decoy, as well as paint chip on the bill, hole behind the strap. The yellow thumb tack is probably a later replacement.

This porcelain plate was produced in England by Royal Crown Derby in 1890. The date cipher indicates this year. The plate was made especially for the New York retailer, Wilhelm & Graef. The plate measures 9 inches in diameter. It is made of fine bone china. The ground color is pale yellow. Four center panels and two bands of ruby red enamel form the decoration. This porcelain demitasse cup and saucer was produced in England by Mintons between 1873 and 1885. This Asian inspired design was a creation of Christopher Dresser. The saucer has a diameter of 4 1/8 inches. The cup is 2 3/8 inches tall with a diameter of 2 1/3 inches. It is made of fine, white bone china. The factory transfer design is hand colored with bright enamels. Cranes are seen flying, wading, walking and swooping in the bamboo and reeds...

A sauceboat with attached undertray, handles on either side and spouts at either end. Decorated with hand colored transfer printing and with gilded highlights as well as gilded edges. On the base in green is the printed mark for Kuznetsov porcelain company which owned a number of factories in Russia. The date of around 1880 is based on the decoration which follows French decoration of the late 19th century...

Offered is this beautiful, peachblow glass vase, made around the turn of the 20th century, probably by Thomas Webb & Sons of Stourbridge, England. The vase is 8 1/2 inches (21, 5 cm) tall and 4 1/2 inches (11,5 cm) wide. The melon-twist vase has beautiful coloration and is in excellent condition. The enameling is highly suggestive of having been done by the studio of Jules Barbe. Unsigned.

From the Southeastern US, a Salesman's Sample of Louvers to ventilate Tobacco Barns. A Great Folk Art Display, measures about 15 3/4" by 23" by 3". Brass knob is patented January 24, 1860. One louver is slightly detached and knob does not adjust louvers as it did originally. You probably will not see another.

Nineteenth century classic folk art, an American weathervane of a galloping horse, dimensions 28" by 15" by 3", with contemporary birch wood block mount for display. The piece was acquired in Connecticut. Weather vanes are not my specialty. I know that there are recognized makers (Harris?) but cannot attribute this to any particular source. Handsome Victorian covered brass box with a beaver finial. The beaver is cast in bronze and is shown chomping on a tree stump. The detail and workmanship on the finial is excellent. The box will polish very nicely, but we have left the original patina.

Circa 1890. Condition: excellent, a small ding at the bottom edge. Size: 5-3/4” tall; 2-7/8” diameter.

A sweet tinsel (foil) painting of a large bouquet of flowers. The painting itself is in very good condition, with no chips, breaks, or image loss. The period or earlier gilded wood frame has normal expected wear. Period wood backboard. The sight size is 11 1/4" by 9 5/8", and the overall size is 12 3/4" by 11".

Chintz plate; Royal Coronaware, "Rosetta" pattern, by S. Hancock & Sons, England, with plate hangar. Dimension 8" diameter, late 19th century.

A beautifully limned tinsel, or foil, painting, reverse painted on glass. The subject matter is a white urn, filled with a an array of various flowers, including a large rose and a lily. The period and probably original frame is of high quality.

This good-sized painting is in overall excellent condition, as is the frame. The sight size is 14 5/8" by 12 3/8", and the framed size is 19 5/8" by 17 1/4".

Aesthetic coin silver baby cup. Made by Juergens & Andersen in Chicago. Tapering and inset sides engraved with stylized ornament, including swags and scrolls, centered on oval frame (vacant) bordered by beading and dentil interspersed with trefoils. Top and bottom have ornamental borders on ribbed ground. Thick scroll bracket handle. Marked “Coin” and “Chicago” with maker’s stamp (1857-71). Very good condition.
