Description: Set of Japanese sake saucers, each silver metal saucer depicts various plants, flowers and trees with inscription below, a four character seal on each base. Diameter of each saucer is 4 inches and all five in perfect condition.

This is Japanese Antique Indigo dye shirushi Hanten coat Maiji. It is thick indigo dye cotton. The lining is very good katazome.It is a hand-spun cotton that is very soft to the touch. It is indigo of nature. It is an impressive motif. There is a little stain. However, there is no damage. The family crest on the back is patchwork.It is very good. A delightful hand carved ivory netsuke of two boys in a Chinese New Year's Lion Dance parade costume. In excellent condition, it measures just under 1.5" high. Dates circa 1900, artist signed

A cute dog Fushimi doll. The dog has an interesting collar possibly in the form of a fabric collar, often seen with domesticated animals portrayed in Japanese paintings. Antique Japanese hikeshi banten, fireman's coat. Made of layers of cotton fabric and stitched in the sashiko quilting technique. Fires were common in Japanese urban areas due to the dense population as well as construction material (primarily wood and paper). Fire brigades were made up of samurai class (buke hikeshi) as well as common class (machi hikeshi). Their primary goal in containing a fire was to tear down the surrounding buildings so the fire had no more fuel...

Japanese Black Lacquer heavy thick Cyprus wood Armor Trunk or Armor Storage Box with heavy black iron mounted, Ca. late 1800's, Meiji period, 19 1/2" high, 20 1/2" wide, 13 3/4" deep, lift up top, mounted with heavy black iron handles and corners with large red Kanji writing on both sides, and plain black lacquer finish on the sides, inside the trunk is finished with beige color lacquer. Shows wear and tear on heavy lacquer finish around edges and trims.

19th century Japanese kozuka (sword knife) handle depicting a a centipede wrapped around an arrow. Unusual and elegant piece, extraordinary crisp work - see the head and body segments of the creature and fine feathers of the arrow. Gilding, finely textured ground called nanako, which means “fish-eggs” as it resembles fine rows of caviar, in great condition. Length 3 3/4 inches.

A fine Japanese hirado porcelain okimono of a recumbent horse. The horse has a whimsical expression. Its eyes are left unglazed with blackened pupils, its unglazed teeth exposed in a wide grin, the corners of the mouth and nostrils pierced through. Touches of cobalt blue underglaze accent the hooves and snout of the horse. The base is impressed with maker's cartouche.

Rare bronze mythical turtle koro or incense burner from the early Meiji Period Ca. 1880. In the form of one of Japan's most famous legends is this mythological giant turtle known as the 'Minogame' or straw raincoat turtle due to the tail resembling a farmers straw coat. The Minogame is regarded as a very auspicious creature in Japan representing long life and good fortune. Sitting on its back is a nest of bronze waves holding a Hoju sacred gem koro or incense burner...

A ghost rises from the darkness pulling on her hair, a wry grin as she looks sideways at the viewer on this antique painting by Moriwaki Unkei. Ink on paper completely cleaned and remounted in vine patterned blue silk with dark wood rollers. There are old age stains on the paper, which appear much stronger in the photos than in life. It is 40 x 200 cm (15-3/4 x 78-3/4 inches) and in excellent condition...

19th century staghorn ojime (slide bead for tightening the cord going from netsuke to inro) carved in a shape of Hyottoko (perplexed peasant) mask. Good design, nice wear, in great condition, signed HAKUSHO on the back. Diameter 9/16 inches. Wooden stand used for photography is not included.

An Arita porcelain plate (#2) decorated with a leaping carp within a moulded border based upon Chinese Ming export porcelain, ‘Kraak’ style. The dishes have faux chattering in imitation of Wanli Kraak dishes.

An Arita dish decorated entirely with a dense arabesque of trailing bush clover vine and leaf with flowers, lotuses These belong to a class of design called hosoge which ultimately derive from Chinese patterns of the Tang period. This particular form popular from the seventeenth century features Bush Clover, Hagi one of the auspicious akikusa-de, and is known as Hagi Karakusa, where karakusa means Chinese (literally Tang) grasses...

Netsuke nicely carved to represent a man standing with a slightly mischievous expression and posture. Ivory, with a fine age patina. Japan, mid Edo Period. Height: 5.9 cm. Minute age cracks (absolutely no damage), slight erosion, otherwise very good condition.
