Antique Japanese large onigawara roof tile end cap. This beautiful tile was made in the toukigawara method with a hollow interior. It once graced the roof of a large building, perhaps a temple or an important house. It has a raised Tomoe crest (mon) in the center which is surrounded by wonderfully three dimensional swirling clouds and topped with it's own roof. Meiji Period (1868-1912).

Hand made more than hundred years ago in Iga, a small tow in the mountains of Mie prefecture, famous as the birthplace of Iga ninja.

Offered is an 8.5" bowl decorated in five colors on a greyish white ground, green reverse with Fuku mark. There are many knife cuts on face and a gold lacquer mend on the rim. An old piece well used and treasured.

This antique Iga vase is a true beauty, made of wonderful native Iga clay.

Late 19th century Japanese porcelain trumpet vase decorated on a rose or bright puce ground with a long-tailed bird perched amongst trees and flowers. The interior rim is decorated with small flower sprays and on the base is a painter's mark. In very good original condition, it measures 12.% inches high, 7.5" mouth diameter, 5.5 base diameter.

A terracotta figure of the Three Wise Monkeys - Mizaru who is covering his eyes, Kikazaru who is covering his ears and Iwazaru who is covering his mouth. All three embody the proverb "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil". The figure is combed terracotta with blue, black and brown paint. From our Japanese Collection, a superb and large satsuma lidded jar / tea caddy by Ryozan, Meiji Period 1868-1912, stunningly executed with exceptional fineness depicting two cartouches of people gathering, alternating with two cartouches of ducks and birds in nature scenes, all separated and framed by intricate brocaded reserves of floral motifs using wonderful color variation and extensive gilt.

A Karatsu ware tea bowl with silver mending (gin-tsugi) which is mending technique, broken pieces are put together with urushi and then silver powder is applied. It has simple painting which is called E-karatsu. Karatsu ware has been produced in the east part of Saga and the north part of Nagasaki prefectures in Kyushu since late 16th century. This one is made of four fragments of Karatsu-yaki (yobi-tsugi).

Up for sale is our oldest Japanese Tokkuri (Sake bottle). It dates from the Momoyama Period with an age of 400 years and has a very tasteful glaze with vivid colours. Close to the bottom there is a kiln mark (refer to picture no. 6)
The Tokkuri can be used with a little flower as a wabi arrangement. It is in good condition with a crack on the top of the tokkuri, which enforces the wabi look.
A Tokkuri with this age is absolutely rare.
