A fine and interesting bronze sculpture of a lady selling fish. The figure is holding a basket of fish with a humorous looking octopus wanting to jump out of the basket. Often during the Meiji period, figures from daily life such as sellers of various produce and products were created for the Euro-American market where the charm and simplicity appealed to collectors. A large Japanese bronze tripod censer decorated with various auspicious motifs. Dragons and phoenix-like birds are set within a wave pattern known as seigaiha. The feet of the vessel are shaped like scrolling clouds. A censer such as this would have been used for incense at a temple.

Beautiful Japanese small commemorative sake dish. Round shape on footed base and incised. The bottom of each dish is inscribed as the 12th, 13th, and 14th National Weaving Competition. The silver sake dishes were made by Yamazaki Shoten of Ginza. Each has its own tomobako with seal. Age: Taisho Period (1912-1925) Sizes: Small dish: 1" h x 3" diameter, approx. 50 grams. Antique Japanese shinto shrine mirror. The central motif has a turtle and two cranes beaks meeting in the center. The background has pine trees, paulownia, plum, and bamboo branches with a turtle walking along the shoreline. The characters under the heavens, are marked under the central turtle.

Antique Japanese shinto shrine mirror. The mirror has a central motif of a turtle meeting the beaks of two cranes. Three baby cranes and a small turtle walk along the beach. The three auspicious symbols of pine, bamboo, and plum blossoms invoke the island of longevity, horaisan. There is an inscription to ward off calamities. This mirror would have been placed on a wooden stand at the entrance to a shinto shrine for the visitor to see their reflection as they entered. Edo period, (c1800)...

Antique Japanese shinto mirror, tenka ichi. This mirror has a tassle tied through a turtle. The central motif is of a turtle over bamboo meeting the beaks of two cranes. The birds and turtle are on a beach with pine trees and bamboo bushes. This mirror would have been placed along with three others at the entrance to a shrine for those entering to see their reflection as they entered. Made of bronze, Edo period (c1800).
It measures 4 5/8" by 1/2" deep.

A bronze brazier, also known as a hibachi. The workmanship of the brazier is intricate with one side showing a motif of Chinese stye lions mingling among peonies and the other, geese flying over reeds in a marsh. The sides are demon or beast like shaped heads with an insert to put rings to decorate the piece. Age: Meiji Period Size: Diameter 8" Height 13.25"

Museum quality Edo Period C.1860 zen temple mizubachi. Lost wax cast with a great dragon spout in grand detail and spectacular shishi mythical lion ornament on the top of the lid. The diaper motif on the base is in raised relief and equally spectacular. The spigot on the dragon head is permanent so we are assuming that there was a constant water flow. A large bronze sculpture in the form of a censer decorated with auspicious motifs, cranes, and scrolling clouds. The lid has a small sculpture of Shoki, the demon queller standing on top of a rock with crashing waves. The side of the censer are two dragons staring at the central figure. The bottom of the censer is held up by four spirits known as shojo, known for drinking large amounts of sake and often seen in Kabuki and noh plays...

This solid Japanese Meiji bronze elephant is very heavy with skin and muscles modelled to a high standard. The elephant looks very animated and was obviously created by an artist of great talent. It is marked on the base with what looks to be a slightly rubbed Seiya signature. There is no damage to this piece.

This yatate, or traveler's pen case, is made of wrought brass, and has a long tube to hold the brush and a deep pot for the ink, which would have been saturated in a cotton wad. The lid snaps snugly over the pot to contain the ink, and a tab connected to the lid covers the end of the tube that contains the brush. A logo is inscribed on the tab in the form of a hiragana ya beneath a roof-shaped mark...

A simple bronze with mixed metal applied to the surface utilizing the method known as zogan where gold and silver is used to apply the decoration and is fired on the surface. The motif is a plum branch with a bird known as an onagadori which is similar to a rooster, but is a distinct bird found in Japan. Piece is signed by Mitsufune. A detailed antique Japanese usubata flower vase. The vase contains a raised figure of phoenix flying and the entire vase contains carvings of paulownia flowers. Antique Japanese pair of gilt copper candle holders (shokudai) engraved with Kodaiji style pattern on the base and the bottom of the holder. The Kodaiji pattern contains repeating pattern of chrysanthemums and paulownia flowers. The pattern originates from the noted temple on the eastern hills of Kyoto which the name is derived from. This very nicely cast metal young soldier standing on a white marble base is a late 19th or early 20th century product. It is 18 ¾” high, 8” wide and 5” thick (measure from the base). It depicts the young soldier holding an animal horn in his right hand and is wearing a pack on his back. It is in very good condition.

Bronze covered hibachi by Soho Sunosuke. Bronze lid with image of Chinese lions and peonies surrounded with a karakusa or scroll vine pattern openwork border on the side. The body of the hibachi contain metalwork still lives of herons, mandarin ducks, quails, and pheasants. Bottom of the hibachi contains the signature of Soho Sunosuke. Signature reading: Soho. This cast metal figure of a farm girl is an early 20th century (late Meiji) product. It depicts a bare footed farm girl carrying a large basket on her shoulder. It is 11 ¼” high and 4 1/8” in diameter at the base. The tip of the small stick she holds in her left hand is broken off. Aside from this, it is in very good condition.

A gorgeous Japanese brazier with excellent high quality enamel work, this treasure is contrasted in color from the dark silvered with areas of gold lid and the bronzed tone copper base, making it a visual treat. Dated to the late 19th century this can still used for fragrant dried flowers on a desk top or table. It measures 6.5" diameter x 5.5" high.

An iron kettle was in decent look.
In compressed form, the kettle was with limited decoration except on the surface of the cover. That made it in a simple and then casual mood.
Well preserved without any defects or restorations, the ewer was easy for use of pouring hot water for making tea.
Of course from the size, the quantity of water was ideally for two people over a chatting time.

Japanese Meiji Period bronze USUBATA vase. The vase sits on a tripod base and has the design in silver inlays of a small rocky island with pine trees under the moonlight and with the ocean with waves around it. Stamped KAMETANI on the bottom. A pair of lacquered iron abumi (Japanese stirrups) decorated in fine gold and nashiji (pear skin) lacquer on a roiro urushi, black lacquer ground.
