19th century Asakusa school staghorn netsuke in manju shape engraved with a falcon seated on a pine branch. Nicely made, clever use of natural texture and brown color of outside patches on an antler as parts of design. Porous center of the antler can be seen on the sides, very good patina. Early 19th century large netsuke depicting flat himono (dried fish - salmon in this case) with a rat gnawing at its head. Clever design, very good carving, eyes of the rodent are inlaid with brown horn, pleasant patina. Himotoshi (cord hole) goes through the mouth to the back of the netsuke. Length 4.7 inches (119 mm).

A fine old ceremonial sake pourer, hisage, hand made from copper and decorated with shochikubai (pine, plum and bamboo), minogame and cranes. Also present are two prominent Tokugawa family crests and on the handle three 16 petalled chrysanthemum crests and another on the rear handle mount. 19th century or earlier. Fine work.

The body of the pourer has probably been raised from one sheet of copper...

19th century netsuke of a bamboo shoot containing a hollow section with anabori (cavern carving) of the Seven Sages of the bamboo grove looking at an open scroll. (see the detail on the first photo), The inside is almost impossible to photograph, but all the sages are there, need a flashlight even to see them.
