Stunning Inro on a gold nashiji background decorated in aokin, takamaki-e, kirigane and takazogan inlaid with mixed metals of a man standing on the roof of a thatched cottage and a young boy carrying a fruit basket looking towards the man . A two-part antler manju beautifully matching the inro is intricately decorated with coral ojime signed Jiyosai. H 9,8 cm.

Lovely black lacquer Japanese vase with 2 crickets. On the back side is a red dot (2 gold dots are on the front), a very interesting and subtle design element. Note in the photos, there is some minor chipping around base. Measures: 8.5" high, 4.25" across shoulder.

Japanese isho tansu, or clothing chest of drawers, constructed with Persimmon wood front drawers and a Sugi (cedar) frame and interior. The tansu holds four long drawers with metal pulls and round keyholes with floral plating. The sides of the piece are built with handles to carry and transport the tansu. Original condition with kanji inscription on backside of chest.

Taisho period (1912-1925)

Late Meiji - early Taisho (1900-1920) wooden Japanese okimono of an actor wearing a voluminous robe and holding a scroll on one hand. Skillfully carved out of chosen matsu (Korean pine wood) in ittobori (one cut) style characteristic of Hida school of netsuke carvers with clever use of wood grain as element of design - in this case almost forming deliberate patterns on the robe. Wonderfully captured facial expression, very nice patina...

Okimono sculpture in bronze of a crow perched on a tree stump in varnished wood. Its eyes are in shakudo.
In Japan, the crow (karasu) is a symbol of gratitude and family love. It is also considered as the divine messenger of good omen. The Kojiki (713) relates that the crow Yatagarasu guided the mythical founder of Japan, Emperor Jinmu (660-585 BC), on a military campaign to Yamato.

Antique Japanese kannon biraki tansu, made with keyaki (elm) and hinoki (cypress) wood. Interior has four storage compartments. Top and sides have the same kanji marking burned into the wood. Beautiful, original finish. Very unusual. Size: 25.75" height, 23" length, 10" depth

Gold dragons prance about the vermillion surface of this exquisite vessel by important Meiji potter Eiraku Zengoro XIV (Tokuzen) enclosed in the original signed wooden box which is in turn enclosed in an outer box also annotated by a later generation Eiraku. Remembered specifically for his mastery of Aka-e Kinsai ware, this is a museum worthy example of this important potters work. It is 43 cm (17 inches) tall and in excellent condition...

This is natural indigo dyeing Shirusi-Hanten made at the beginning of the Meiji period. This gets texture and others by cotton and silk. As for this, cotton and silk are spun by hand. It is rare that Shirusi-Hanten is woven by cotton and silk. Most are only cotton. This has fading with several places of a few holes, but the state is good. This was sewed for a child again. Size 65cm x 103cm (25.5 "x40.5")

19th century Japanese bronze mae-kanagu (tobacco pouch clasp fitting) in a form of two sumo wrestler dolls and a fan used by the judge in sumo matches and decorated with sun, moon and a constellation. Elegant design, great crisp detailing, gilded and silvered highlights. Length 1 9/16 inches.

A lidded Japanese ewer for serving saki or wine. The white porcelain pot is decorated with cobalt blue and then foliage and friezes were applied using red, green, and gold enamels. The cover has a flattened knob, and is decorated so as to match the body of the vessel. The kettle's body measures about 5 1/2"h x 6"d (with handle 7 1/2"h)(with spout 7 3/4"w), and dates to the second half of the Edo Period. The condition of the ewer is very good with no damage or repairs...

A finely potted six sun sized dish decorated with a traveller clutching his hat and leaning into a cold wind before a snow covered Mount Fuji. The design would appear to be derived from a print of travellers in the Mishima pass, one of the 36 views of Mount Fuji. The reverse painted with a Karakusa arabesque with a single spur mark to the base. The dish dates to the late Edo period and the middle of the 19th century. The dish measures 18.2cm in diameter and stands 3.4cm high at the rim...

Late Meiji period (1890s to 1912) Japanese wooden kushi (hair comb) with gold lacquer decoration of flowering chrysanthemum branches, design continuing on the ridge and onto the back. Beautifully made, very good lacquering, wonderful work in Japanese taste, some wear as can bee seen on photos. Length 5.25 inches.

Japanese Imari Porcelain Double Gourd shape Vase, Ca. Meiji period, 1868-1912, 12" high, 1 3/8" diameter-top rim, 7" wide-widest section, 4" diameter-bottom rim, flying Phoenix bird and dragon inside four(4) separate round circles, and Mon design inside the top round circles, all decorate with typical overglaze red and underglaze blue, highlight in gold. Top rim has rough area with old tiny frit.

19th century or earlier Japanese sword kashira (metal pommel at the end of the hilt of a sword) with gilded decoration of samurai crests of paulownia leaves. Well made, finely textured ground called nanako, which means “fish-eggs” as it resembles fine rows of caviar, wear as can be seen on photos. Length 1.32 inches.

This is a KYOTO SATSUMA EARTHENWARE VASE circa 1875 to 1900. Painted with Rust & GOLD there are two Primary Painted Scenes. Those being the SAMURAI Panel and another Panel with CHILDREN Playing. Size of this SATSUMA VASE is 4 1/2" in diameter X 6 1/2" tall. At the top the Dragon Motif Handles. Additionally, Painted Butterflies on the sides. A Very Desirable ANTIQUE KYOTO SATSUMA VASE.
