A fine antique Berber tribe of Morocco N. Africa brides dowery necklace made of coin silver with enamel beads and champleve work with inset coral. Measuring approx 28 inches overall. A fine example.

Used by Tibetan Buddhist Monks and Priests, this old prayer wheel is adorned with an ornate silk fringed top. The copper barrel has a narrow silver collar with 3 coral beads and a traditional design is pressed into the silver bottom. The heavy lead weight will keep the prayer wheel spinning smoothly atop the hand hewn wooden handle. This prayer wheel is approximately 12 inches long.

He is sitting on a lotus pedestal, his priest garment is decorated with gold lacquer, the sections of skin are left undecorated,. Behind his head a circular metal halo. On the inside of the doors, painted on paper, the left leaf with the patriarch Shandao declaiming Buddhist prayers, the right leaf with the founder of the Jodo-shu sect, named Honen Shonin or Enko Daishi...

A elegant lacquerware for monastery use. Made in Kyaukka, in the lower Chindwin District in Burma, made from woven matting and coiled bamboo and lacquered in black and red. Each painted with five roundels enclosing different landscapes in underglaze blue, flanked by pierced cash motif walls. Standing on a short footrim, the base is unglazed and with a red "Hatcher Collection" label. Condition: fine, one bowl with a minimal tiny rim chip. Many stories were written based on Yoshitsune (Minamoto family) and Benkei. The "Kanjincho", the Kabuki adaptation of the Noh play "Ataka" was first performed at the end of the Edo period in 1840. Danjuro VII played the roll of Benkei in the same costume that you see on this doll for the first time. Danjuro VII brought many fresh ideas and techniques to Kabuki play. A pear-shaped vase freely painted with foliate designs in a dark chocolate brown glaze over a white slip. The slightly flared footrim is also painted in dark chocolate brown. A dish of raised barbed lotus form with a moulded ribbed cavetto decorated in underglaze blue with gilt outlined enamels dating to circa 1740-70. The unusual form of the dish follows Chinese “Ko Sometsuke” precedents of the first half of the 17th century; see “The Peony Pavillion” lot 220 for a Chinese example of the Chongzhen period. Description:
A Jizhou bowl was applied with dark brown nearing black glaze on the surface.
Characteristically and famously a leaf pattern was applied in the cavetto.
By greasy-feel quality belong to the Jizhou glaze, the surface was spread with subtle crackles which were caused by the age.
The body clay revealed at the bottom was in soft and loosening quality which was in line with the characteristics of the dated Jizhou wares...

This is a Northern Song - Jin dynasty cizhou sancai dish with incised lotus design, with green and brown colour enamel. It stands on a short foot rim and then everted into a u-shaped body. The centre of the dish is incised with a single lotus flower with a large open leaf below it. The lotus is painted with a shade of brown colour on the inner side and the outer side a dark cream colour. The lotus leaf is painted in green colour with brown shading on the inner side...

This lovely Quan Yin standing figure measures 13 3/4", and is leaning slightly forward and to her right, her right hand holding a Ruyi scepter, her left hand holding the edge of her robe. Comprised of red lacquer over wood, her robe is rimmed with a wide hem that is decorated with applied lacquer details, and the fabric of the robe is lightly textured with fine curved lines. Both her face and hands have a rubbed surface, showing brighter color and more gloss...

This is an old Chinese carpentry tool. It was used the same as today's carpenter's "chalk line". The bowl would be filled with powdered charcoal and the string would be pulled through the bowl, and a straight line would be snapped. The string would be rewound by tuning the "crank handle"...
