Splendid Keshiki, it is difficult to describe this stunning square platter by Bizen master Kakurezaki Ryuichi (b. 1950) which comes enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The massive dish is torn and scraped from a single thick slab of clay. Spattered with natural ash glaze, it is a true masterpiece by this most sought after artist. An exquisite plate by legendary Okabe Mineo enclosed in a wooden box titled Benishino Hirabachi, annotated inside: Work of Mineo Sensei signed and sealed by Kuroda Totoan. There is something very intimate about this artist and his work, the glaze is thin, reealing the body of the work and you can feel the potters hands in the clay. It is 32.5 cm (13 inches) diameter and in excellent condition...

An unusual form by Mori Toshiaki enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Bizen Te-bachi (handled basin). The basin has been paired off at the top, the ribbons of clay looping over each other to form the winding handle. A most unusual design. A blast of ash decorates the exposed upper surfaces, the basin itself rust colored raw clay. It is 20 cm (8 inches) diameter, 14.5 cm (5-3/4 inches) tall and in excellent condition, directly from the artist this summer...

As if it never cooled, this tea cups by Suzuki Osamu glows with the fire which forged it a rich orange with russet iron highlighting the borders between the red glaze, a superb work enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Shino Yunomi.

Ash simply blankets this vessel by Koyama Kiyoko enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Shigaraki Shizen-yu Tetsuki Hanaire. It is 29 cm (just less than 12 inches) tall, roughly 5 inches diameter and in excellent condition.
Koyama Kiyoko was born in Sasebo, Nagasaki in 1936. Following the second world war the family moved to Shiga prefecture, eventually settling in the pottery village of Shigaraki. She took a job as a ceramic painter's assistant at a young age...

He then attended the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, MD where he received his Masters of Fine Art. He has had 16 solo exhibitions in New York, including six at O.K. Harris, two at the James Yu gallery, and the Dobrick Galleries in Chicago.

A rare large work blasted with natural ash glaze by Koyama Kiyoko enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Shigaraki Shizen-yu Kama-shizuku O-Tsubo. The rim is crusty and shows Shinshoku (degradation from the flame) a testament to her infamously long firing times. The front is coated in a flow of green and olive ash, while on the raw earth of the back a single drip (shizuku) from the kiln roof has landed as a colorful accent...

This is everything we could hope from Bizen Shuki set by this esteemed artist, Kakurezaki Ryuichi enclosed in their original signed wooden boxes and dating to 2023.

Kakurezaki Ryuichi is one of the most well known of Bizen potters, he is interestingly originally not from Bizen but far off Nagasaki, which seems to have gifted him with the ability to see the clays potential beyond conventional form...
