Exhibited (in a gallery show) this Ko-Iga chawan was made by veteran potter, Kojima Kenji. This bowl is broad and deftly manipulated to create a rather nice form with the addition of a stamped device toward the bottom of the reverse of the piece. The face of the chawan has a nice build up of ash creating a blue-grey surface that then runs to ash tendrils embracing the sides and terminating at the rear in a variety of large drips...

Mint Oni-Hagi masterpiece chawan with notched foot by star potter Seigan Yamane. This extraordinary tea bowl is covered by wonderful different shades of white and light green glaze. In my opinion it is the one of the most aesthetic chawans that he made. The seal of the artist is stamped on the bottom.

Seigan Yamane was born in 1952, and started making Hagi ware in 1987...

The bowl reflects the aesthetics of those imported Korean wares preferred by Sen-no-Rikyu in the Momoyama era. The pale glaze crawls across the surface, creating a sense of drama over this very austere form. The rim dips and curves, a playful accent to the otherwise sedate work, made to suit the stately confines of the tea room...

Takuro makes the most characteristic pottery I have ever seen here in Japan , and when you look on this particular piece it’s easy to understand why. A wonderful deep dark bowl perfect for trapping the heat and aroma of tea in winter by Tsujimura Shiro enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Hikidashi-Kuro Chawan. The feeling is like Raku, with a thin glaze over rough clay affecting hi-iro colors within the glazing. This is a great example of the diverse style of this artist who is known for radical textures and natural effects.
