Measuring 46 x 11cm (approximately 18" x 4.25") this impressive charger/ platter is cloaked in a shimmery, and sparkling black texture with impressed, inlaid decoration of stark and contrasting white across the piece which gives off a wet sheen across the impressed surface...

This piece is made of copper glaze called "oribe". At first , it is covered with feldspar and painted with iron and next it is covered with copper glaze. It is firing into burning charcoal in the kiln, so there are complicated atmosphere, oxidation and reduction. The oxidation atmosphere makes the copper glaze red, the reduction atmosphere makes it green and the mixture atmosphere makes complicated color. Mint Oni-Hagi masterpiece chawan by star potter Seigan Yamane. This extraordinary tea bowl is covered by wonderful different shades of white glaze and a few shades of purple on brown pottery. In my opinion it is the one of the most aesthetic chawans that he made. The seal of the artist is stamped on the bottom.
