After leaving Derby College in 1988 Nic Collins opened his first pottery at Postbridge in the middle of Dartmoor, Devon. It was on the site of a disused gunpowder manufacturing facility and was known as Powdermills Pottery.
He built a 60 cu ft wood fired kiln and produced one-off studio pieces and a range of domestic wares...

Representative of this artists work, the lip has split with heat, one edge blasted off, and the entire charred and buried in ash. Molten ash has crystallized into green glass on the front of this large faceted Chawan by Nishihata Tadashi enclosed in the original wooden box titled Aka-tsuchi OO Chawan recently-fired (2014) and signed Tamba Tadashi-Zo. The rest of the bowl, inside and out, is mostly raw Tamba clay, the red a striking contrast to the mottled flowing greens.

There is no doubt about the superlative nature of the deep celadon glazes used by Living National Treasure Nakajima Hiroshi, and this vessel is no let down. A darkly crackled mustard-green covers this Incense Burner which comes enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled modestly Seiji Koro. I have long wanted to offer a significant piece by this artist, and here is a spectacular Nezumi Shino pair of vases by Wakao Toshisada enclosed in the original signed wooden box. Red tinged white waves boil over the Nezumi-gray arc of the base, a white waxing moon floating above. They measure 9 x 3-1/2 x 12-1/2 and 8-1/2 x 3-1/2 x 10-1/2 inches (23 x 9 x 32 cm and 21.5 x 9 x 27 cm) respectively and are in perfect condition.
