An unusually attractive example of the work of artist Anders Gittelson (1921-2003), better known by his brush name "GISSON" or "ANDRE GISSON". This oil on canvas, measuring 24" by 20" (33" by 28 1/2" as ornately framed) features a lovely nude seen from the back, fixing her hair as she prepares to enter the water, the dominating hues various shades of blue, all bathed in the white suffused light commonly seen in the artist's works. Something of a mystery piece, this unsigned mixed media drawing in gouache, watercolor, pencil and ink rather resembles the stage design work of the noted artist Eugene Berman (1899-1972). Measuring 14" by 19 1/2", unframed, the drawing is on paper laid down on another sheet of paper. It has traveled without framing so has become dog eared and acquired a number of other flaws including a heavy crease at upper left and other issues within the imagery...

Chromolithograph late 19th century print after a work by the noted German landscape artist THEODORE WEBER (1838-1907), the scene of the Italian coast, figures walking up a hillside road leading away from the sea, an ancient church steeple at left. The piece measures 18 3/4" by 12 1/2" inside the old mat, 28" by 21" in old gold frame, which shows its age with various chips and losses. Weber's oils and watercolors sell to about the $10,000 level at auctions...

A large etching in colors by the famous Czech artist, TAVIK FRANTISEK SIMON (1877-1942), commonly titled "Rue Mouffetard" (Paris scene). The sheet measures 21" by 24" and is presently unframed with just an old mat. The subject is a pawn shop ("Chiffonier") in Paris, the antique curiosities and goods displayed on the street as people mill about. Unframed oil on paper on board painting of a desert Southwest landscape, 8 1/2" by 12", signed at lower right M. Edwards. The painting probably dates to the 1920's or 1930's I would guess. It has accumulated a lot of soiling and varnish has yellowed, so it desperately needs a cleaning. Note the left extreme edge, which must have been behind a frame, to get some idea of the potential after cleaning.
