In the period 1966-67, Haku Maki did two large series with Song as the theme. There was Flower Song, a series of 10 prints. And there was Animal Song which was Maki’s Asian Zodiac series, with 12 images. It was also a small series with small editions--50 in the case of Animal Song (released in Kyoto, so very hard to find: only one friend has the full set), I do not know who has the full set of Flower Song. Carl Milles Danish (1875-1955) Leaping Deer bronze sculpture. A fine example of this artists work. In excellent condition measuring 13 inches tall cast at Lrasmussen foundry Copenhagen. Carl Milles dominated the Swedish art world. He received many public commissions in Sweden and abroad. He was a monumental sculptor who received many public art commissions at a time when many cities expanded and were modernised.

A finely painted American miniature portrait of a gentleman in a black jacket and tie, posed in front of a red drapery. What makes this highly unusual for a miniature cased portrait is that it is oil paint on wood, rather the the exceedingly more common watercolor on ivory or paper.

There is a very old note in the gilt metal case identifying the sitter as John Calvin Margin, born in 1790, the son of Curtis and Claire Margin, with a reference to Boston, Mass and Binghamton NY.
