This is an example of the MARC CHAGALL (1887-1985) lithograph "The Tribe of Joseph", from The Jerusalem Windows series of the early 1960's. Measurements are 12 1/2" by 9 3/4", so, this is I believe from a book, and it is much smaller in size than the edition of 150 pencil signed version of the print. It is however a true lithograph and not a dot offset print. I examined this out of the frame (and it is loose under the mat currently, floating)...

A superb gouache drawing of a Navajo rider and two horses in a red Southwest landscape, signed at lower right by the noted Navajo artist, JUSTIN TSO (1948-). The 11 5/8" by 10 1/4" drawing is double matted, (18" by 16 1/2" framed), the mat shape rather complex and interesting. Original stone lithograph, not an offset print, 23 3/4" by 26 3/4" inside the mat (not examined out of frame), signed in the plate by the artist Jan TOOROP and dated in the plate 1915. Executed primarily in black, note the color----pale orange in the cap and shirt, blue in the trousers. Toorop is a major Dutch artist, one of whose works (painting) just exceeded $700,000 at auction. His prints and posters are much more affordable. I don't see that this one is pencil signed...

This is one of three works I am offering, by a talented Canadian mid 20th century painter who signed her works "Eola Sutherland". Although there is online a photo of a gravestone for an Eola Hayton Sutherland (1884-1967) of Ontario, likely our painter, there is a lack of biographical information on the artist. One of a number in my shop inventory, this is a fresh and clean example of one of William Russell Flint's fine color photolithographs issued for collectors over a period of decades. This example, published in 1961 in an edition of 750, is signed in pencil at lower right and bears the characteristic embossed blindstamp in lower left margin. The title is "The Shower". The print measures 17 3/4" by 22 1/2" inside the mat and 26 1/2" by 30 1/2" as framed...

Every so often, Maki decided to create an all-white print to which he added two or three small bits of color. Daniel Tretiak talked of Maki’s fondness for adding balance to his prints especially with the use of moons or splashes of color. Poem Y is an example. The print is beautifully textured with the colored spots placed in smooth areas among the overall embossing. It measures 17 1/8 square inches and is no.15 of an edition of 50.

When I first saw this I thought it might be an image of Obama, in the style of Shepard Fairey, who created the now-famous "Hope" image. Upon closer examination I saw that it was obviously older, circa 1960's, judging from the label on the frame, which gives the artist as a Jim Moran of Visalia, California. The subject remains to me a mystery, but I wonder if it might be a famous 1960's African-American activist---or then again it might not be a black subject at all...
