Large original oil painting on canvas by Ilona Royce Smithkin (USA, born in Poland, 1910-2021). Signed LR "Ilona R S". Marked ASL verso. Probably painted at the ASL where she studied in the forties with Robert Brackman. One of two works by this artist currently available. 32" by 44" in its original frame.

Oil on canvas, relined, measuring 17" by 21" (24" by 28" as framed) signed at upper left in red by listed Italian painter CLAUDIO RINALDI (and below which he wrote "Firenze"---where he was active between the 1860's and 1890's). There doesn't seem to be a lot of information available on the artist, but the subject matter and the handling of the faces are consistent with a number of other works by his hand that have appeared on the market in Europe and America...

For the eclectic collector of 19th century American folk art, this is an oil on canvas, as framed in the original gilt, measuring 26 1/2" by 37 1/2" overall. The work was purchased in coastal Maine, where it came directly out of an old farmhouse near Nobleboro. It had been the property of one family there for decades.
