It is signed at lower left by noted artist AMBROSE PATTERSON (1877-1967) and titled on the reverse, rather mysteriously, "The Alert". An American circa late 1960's to about 1970 still life painting in oil on rough side of the Masonite, 18" by 14" (24" by 19 1/2" framed), signed at lower left possibly "Pardoe". The red poppies are beautifully rendered and the richness of the red contrasts with the deep blue of the vase. Condition is excellent. A very decorative painting, in a frame of the period.

This is a hand painted original work, the subject a newly married couple, he in Edwardian (??) formal coat and medals and monocle, she in traditional white with a corsage. The image was either intentionally cut out by the artist and pasted onto a board which was in turn pasted onto a light green silky surface, or someone has subsequently decided on this presentation. Currently the figures therefore stand out in something of a three dimensional manner from the background...

PAIR of gouache paintings on paper, unframed, each 19 3/4" by 25 1/2", both signed by listed French mid century artist GERARD CABUS (born 1926). One appears to be dated 1967.
