A wonderful Italian Baroque oil painting depicting Jesus and the Samaritan Woman. Painted circa 1670 in a beautiful 18th century gold leaf frame.

Painting on board, 18" by 20" (24" by 28" as framed), signed at lower right "BIZLEY" (artist RICHARD BIZLEY, 1959-, of Dorset, England). Auctions of items relating to natural history are seeing intense interest from museums and individuals, and record prices are set regularly. A total of FOUR watercolor paintings, framed as pairs, in two frames, each watercolor 10" by 4 7/8", each frame 17 3/4" by 17 3/4". All of the watercolors are signed at lower left with initials "FD". Judging from the scenes, these are likely Northern European and of late nineteenth century date. Condition is excellent, one frame has a little nick at top right. Some research may help determine the identity of the artist.

An engraving from the Description de l’Egypte, one of the masterpieces of French printing and the birth of a new field: Egyptology. A gigantic survey of Egypt at the time of Bonaparte’s conquests in 1798 and 1799, the work is divided into 13 volumes of engravings making up 892 plates, of which 72 colored, as well as presenting the splendors of the Egypt of the Pharaohs in 9 volumes...

Oil on canvas painting, unsigned, 24" by 12", in pinkish wood strip framing. The colors of the painting could be described as creamy light pink with some green. The work might have some age as it appears that "12-81" is written on the stretcher, possibly a date; and olden-days "$2.03" price is stamped on inside of the frame. There is a three-dimensional relief in places, where the artist spread the paint. No varnish, dull surface.

Johannes Wierix, Flemish, 1549-1618, "The Betrayal of Christ, Agony in the Garden". This is a rare early engraving by Johannes Wierix after Pieter van der Borcht, printed with an image on both sides of the sheet. Each image measures 4 1/2 x 2 7/ 8 inches, 1583, a good impression on a very early laid type paper, published by 16th century book printer and publisher Christophe Plantin. One side of the sheet shows the 'Betrayal of Christ', the other 'Agony in the Garden'.

A very nicely painted miniature portrait done in watercolor on natural organic material. Signed "D.F. Ames NY" along the lower right. The sitter is a nice looking young gentleman in a blue coat with gilt buttons, a black stock tie, off-white vest and ruffled shirt. Based on the hair style and clothing the painting was done at the beginning of the period when Ames was known to work.

The miniature is without any cracks, chips, bowing, or restoration...

(~27" x 20"). Can be shipped world wide economically, rolled up in a tube if you want and can be hung in any direction you wish.

Oil on canvas painting of high snowy mountains framed by aspen in late autumn, 12" by 16" (17 1/4" by 20 1/2" nicely framed) signed in the wet paint by well listed American artist EDWARD NORTON WARD (1928-). This might well be a scene in northern New Mexico or southern Colorado, but the artist was known to have painted in many locales in the American west, including Montana, Oregon and Alaska. Ward, a native Californian, moved to the Monterey area in the mid 1950's...

Oil on masonite painting, (24 1/2" by 31" as framed) of a clipper with bare masts, at anchor near a beach at dawn or sunset, signed at lower right by artist Sean O'Farrell. I do not see any listings for this artist, who obviously had a solid command of painting. The work was likely created circa 1960's. There is a small loss at upper left, otherwise it is in excellent condition. The frame is likely older, dating perhaps to the 1940's or 1950's, and it is itself interesting and of value.

Watercolor on paper landscape painting of a large body of water, possibly a river, with rickety wooden docks in the foreground and a few small boats in the sun glare off the water, 9 3/4" by 12 3/4" (13 1/2" by 16 1/2" in pleasing gold frame), signed at lower right "Minn Thein" and dated there 2001. This watercolor likely hails from Myanmar (Burma), as the name is commonly encountered in that nation. This might be the Irrawaddy River that winds through the country...

Uncommonly exquisite, large original drawing in pastel, 25 1/2" by 19 1/2", 35 1/2" by 27 1/2" as professionally framed in bleached wood, signed at lower left and dated there '91 by the noted American artist LOU KOHL-MORGAN (1942-). Purchased recently in Portland, Maine, the work bears a gallery label from the Frick Gallery of Belfast, Maine. The title of the work is "Equinox". Frick Gallery on the central Maine coast was an active gallery in the late 1980's and early to mid 1990's...
